Abstract:
Join us for an insightful session on the integration of professionalism within the Occupational Therapy Programme at the University of Queensland. During our one-week visit at the UQ, we observed how the curriculum shapes students from their first year through to final year placements, emphasizing key aspects of professional practice. Professionalism is crucial for OT practitioners as it ensures the delivery of high-quality care, fosters trust with clients, and promotes effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams. Emphasizing professionalism in training students to be occupational therapists is essential to prepare them to meet basic professional standards with integrity and competence. In this DLTC seminar, we will discuss how the OT programme at UQ emphasizes professional behaviors, effective client communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, and self-reflection, aiming to prepare students to assume the role as an "occupational therapist-to-be" rather than just being a "student." Additionally, we will highlight key features of their clinical education structure, training for clinical educators, and relevant educational research.
