Master of Science in Advanced Physiotherapy

Sharing by graduates of the previous MSc in Sports Physiotherapy programme (for Specialism in Musculoskeletal and Sports):

Mr Alex NG (Senior Physiotherapist, Hong Kong Sports Institute)-

Spending two years on the Sports Physiotherapy course with PolyU has been a transformative experience that solidified my decision to specialize in this field. The course provided extensive on-field exposure across various sports, including volleyball and handball with the university team, which enriched my practical knowledge. A key highlight was my placement at the Hong Kong Sports Institute, where I gained invaluable hands-on experience and confirmed my aspiration to work in such an environment. The curriculum was comprehensive, covering essential aspects of sports physiotherapy, while also introducing me to the multidisciplinary nature of the field. I particularly valued the opportunity to learn from guest speakers, who ranged from strength and conditioning experts to psychologists and dietitians, offering diverse perspectives and insights into the collaborative approach required in sports.

Ms LAU Cheuk Chi (Sports Physiotherapist, Hong Kong Sports Institute)-

The MSc in Sports Physiotherapy programme incorporates knowledge and skills in the areas of sports injury prevention, pitch-side care, sports-specific rehabilitation and performance enhancement. I have had the chance to work with coaches and sports medical professionals, and I have come to understand the concept of high-performance training. Moreover, my clinical placement experience enhanced my reasoning and decision-making skills. I am grateful for the career opportunities that this graduate degree has opened up for me, including the chance to work with athletes from amateur to elite levels.

This two-year master's program has been incredibly rewarding and inspiring. I have gained valuable insights from the knowledgeable educators' shared experiences and engaging discussions with classmates.
I highly recommend this course to physiotherapists seeking to enhance their professional knowledge and expertise in manual and neuromusculoskeletal physiotherapy.

Mr. Geoffrey YU Cho Wai (2023 Graduate of MSc in Manipulative Physiotherapy)-

In the hustle for improvement in clinical practice, the valuable programme of Master of Science in Manipulative Physiotherapy enlightened me to become a better physiotherapist with greater precision in clinical judgement and a stronger heart for patient care. The program features vast exposure to both contemporary and classical schools of thought for the arts of manual therapy, it enables students to critically synthesize the strengths and pitfalls of different theories related to manual therapy, make specific physical diagnosis and apply the best treatment options with reason and accuracy against various neuromusculoskeletal diseases and pain conditions. Learning by examples from our great mentors and teachers during the one-year long clinical placement, we have improved ourselves to listen to our patients not just by our ears but through our hands, seeing patients’ concern with more understanding, and empower them to recover from their conditions by specific exercise and self-management in addition to our effective manual therapy. The great research experience with expert guidance in conducting experimental project study also inspired me to devote in clinical research with dedication to discover new knowledge that can be translated to clinical practice. I am very grateful to be a graduate of this rewarding and renowned program.
