InnoHK R&D Centres

PolyU established three world-class research centres at the Hong Kong Science Park under the government-funded InnoHK initiative. These three centres, namely the InnoHK Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence in Design (InnoHK AiDLab), the InnoHK Research Centre for Eye and Vision Research (InnoHK CEVR) and the InnoHK Research Centre for Intelligent GRID and Energy Technologies (InnoHK I-GET).

InnoHK Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence in Design (InnoHK AiDLab)

Collaborative Institution: Royal College of Art, UK
Research Cluster: AIR@InnoHK

In collaboration with the Royal College of Art, UK, PolyU established the InnoHK AiDLab under the AIR@InnoHK cluster to integrate innovative AI technologies into design to address society's needs for creativity, efficiency and customisation of products and services. InnoHK AiDLab is the first research platform that focuses on the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with design. Its cutting-edge research will create a positive impact on the global design industry, contributes to the wider economy, and improves the quality of life. Three research programmes at InnoHK AiDLab include Ergonomic and Inclusive Design, Innovation in Product and Service Design, and Intelligent Fashion Design and Quality Control.

CEVRInnoHK Centre for Eye and Vision Research (InnoHK CEVR)

Research Cluster: Health@InnoHK

Under the Health@InnoHK cluster, InnoHK CEVR was set up as a joint partnership between PolyU and the University of Waterloo, Canada. InnoHK CEVR promotes eye health with clinical, basic and applied research, and develops ground-breaking technologies to prevent vision loss and preserve sight among the ageing population. InnoHK CEVR runs five research programmes, namely Myopia and Eye Growth, Ocular Drug Discovery and Delivery, Vision Enhancement, Tear Film and Ocular Surface, and Advanced Optometric Technology.

InnoHK Research Centre for Intelligent GRID and Energy Technologies (InnoHK I-GET)

Collaborative Institution: King’s College London
Research Cluster: SEAM@InnoHK

PolyU’s InnoHK Research Centre for Intelligent GRID and Energy Technologies (InnoHK I-GET) is the only research centre on the SEAM@InnoHK cluster dedicated to grid technology, with a mission to support carbon neutrality through smart grid research. It has established four key research areas: autonomous energy management technologies for smart grids, green and intelligent grid interfaces, grid-friendly new energy transport, and emerging grid and energy technologies, comprehensively advancing the development and application of smart grid technology.


InnoHK Centre for Space Manufacturing Technology (InnoHK CSMT)

In partnership with the Hong Kong Institute of Science & Innovation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, PolyU is a major local partner in the InnoHK Centre for Space Manufacturing Technology (InnoHK CSMT), contributing the University’s expertise in advanced manufacturing and materials technologies.

InnoHK is a major initiative of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government to develop Hong Kong as the hub for global research collaboration. This involves the establishment of world-class research clusters at the Hong Kong Science Park with research laboratories set up by world renowned universities and research institutes to conduct collaborative researches.

Air@InnoHK, Health@InnoHK and SEAM@InnoHK are the three established research clusters under InnoHK. AIR@InnoHK focuses on the development of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics technologies, Health@InnoHK focuses on all types of healthcare-related technologies and SEAM@InnoHK focuses on sustainable development, energy, advanced manufacturing and materials.
