External Partnership Opportunities

The Innovation and Technology Fund (ITF), administered by the Innovation and Technology Commission, aims to increase the added value, productivity and competitiveness of our economic activities. The Government hopes that, through the ITF, Hong Kong companies could be encouraged and assisted to upgrade their technological level and introduce innovative ideas to their businesses.

ITSP supports research and development (R&D) projects undertaken by designated local public research institutes and R&D Centres. ITSP invites applications for funding once a year. It supports Platform Projects (applied R&D projects which are industry-oriented and have potential for commercialization) and Seed Projects (exploratory and forward-looking in nature).

A scheme aims to support R&D projects undertaken by private companies in collaboration with local universities/research institutions. To achieve synergy and enhance flexibility, this scheme consolidates the University-Industry Collaboration Programme (UICP) and the collaborative stream of the Innovation and Technology Support Programme (ITSP) under a single programme. The scheme provides matching funding support for approved projects. The maximum project duration is 3 years. Applications for PRP are open all year round.

Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute (JITRI) Collaborative Funding Scheme – Call for Preliminary Proposals

Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute (JITRI) sets up a fund pool of 20 million RMB (per year) for PolyU PI, to provide matching funding for JITRI specialized institute / JITRI institute spinoff company collaborative research projects. The funding amount is subject to the mutual agreement between the Institute and PI. Focus area includes Materials and Energy Environmental Protection, Information Technology, Biotechnology and Medicine, as well as Advanced Manufacturing. JITRI already has successful projects ongoing with PolyU PI.

TCFS aims to enhance the level of collaboration on research and development among universities, research institutes and technology enterprises in Hong Kong and Guangdong /Shenzhen.

Category C1 Themes/Topics: New-generation information technology, Semiconductor and integrated circuit, Artificial intelligence, Financial technologies, Biomedical technology, Food safety, New materials, New energy, Energy conservation and environmental protection (air and water pollution control), Advanced manufacturing, Marine science and priority will be given to projects in various disciplines related to the prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic.

The Government announced in the 2020-21 Budget that HK$200 million would be allocated for setting up the new GTF to provide better and more focused funding support for the R&D and application of decarbonisation and green technologies, so as to expedite low-carbon transformation and enhance environmental protection in Hong Kong.

In the 2019 Policy Address Supplement, the Chief Executive announced the setup of the Smart Traffic Fund (“Fund”) to provide funding support to local organisations or enterprises for conducting research and application of innovation and technology with the objectives of enhancing commuting convenience, enhancing efficiency of the road network or road space, and improving driving safety. $1 billion have been earmarked for the Fund, which commences operation in 2020-21.

 

The Transport Department has engaged the Hong Kong Productivity Council as the Implementation Partner to serve as the Secretariat for the Fund. The Fund aims to provide support for enterprises or organizations to conduct research and application on vehicle-related I&T with at least one of the following objectives:

  • Enhancing convenience of motorists;
  • Enhancing efficiency of the road network or road space; and
  • Improving driving safety.

Pfizer’s Centers for Therapeutic Innovation (CTI) Call for Proposals (CFP) - areas of interest and the timeline for submission of non-confidential pre-proposals for 2021 is now available. CTI focuses on accessing cutting-edge science and innovative discoveries aligned with Pfizer’s current core research areas of Oncology, Inflammation & Immunology, Rare Diseases, and Internal Medicine. Jointly operated by the French National Research Agency (ANR) and The Research Grants Council (RGC), the Scheme serves to foster collaboration between research communities in France and Hong Kong.

BIO-Asie and STIC-Asie
