Since 2008, PolyU research on tourism demand forecasting has helped national tourism organisations and private businesses in the Asia-Pacific region make informed strategic, investment and operational decisions. By providing accurate forecasts and demand elasticity analyses, the research has supported better pricing, marketing and risk management across tourism destinations.

In collaboration with Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), PolyU’s latest forecasting work has also supported the tourism industry’s post-COVID recovery. Its data, made available to over 400 PATA member organisations, informed China’s national tourism policy, contributed to a 127% recovery in inbound tourism in 2024 compared with pre-pandemic levels, and guided major business investments worth at least RMB1.7 billion between 2021 and 2023.
