PolyU researchers in building energy have developed robust methodologies and technologies to enhance the efficiency of air-conditioning system and promote the effective use of renewables through integration into building envelopes.
The advancements have been successfully adopted in over 20 building projects, including the International Commerce Centre and New World Centre. Going further, the energy technologies have also contributed to To Kwa Wan Station, which established the model for next generation of air-conditioning systems for underground stations.
With these innovations, adopting buildings have achieved energy efficiency improvements of 15%–42%, leading to total savings of over 25 million kWh (equivalent to approximately HK$25M) annually.
