Led by scholars from our integrated cancer research platform, the team has advanced cancer care by integrating innovative diagnostics, personalised symptom management and community-based support across the treatment journey.
The team developed a systematic ultrasound protocol and algorithm for accurate detection and diagnosis of malignant neck lymph nodes, nurse-led symptom management programmes, and evidence-based approaches to reduce chemotherapy-related nausea, vomiting (CINV) and cough. Their findings have been incorporated into major international guidelines, including MASCC/ESMO, NICE and ACCP, influencing clinical practice worldwide and reaching thousands of oncology professionals.
The research has also been translated into free practical tools in partnership with industry, such as the riskCINV online calculator, symptom assessment apps (e.g. the Antiemesis Scale) and clinician-facing websites, supporting clinicians make faster, better-informed decisions and improve communication with patients.
In Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland, the research has shaped hospital services and home-based palliative care models, improving patients’ quality of life while reducing hospital readmissions and healthcare costs.
