We are excited to announce that the RIAIoT Seminar Series "From Chatbots to AI Agents: Reshaping Education and Research" will be held on 27 August 2026 at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. We are honoured to have Mr. Yongjie Liu, Senior Architect, Education Sector, Tencent Cloud, and Ms. Jia Gu, Architect, Education Sector, Tencent Cloud, from Tencent Holdings Ltd., as the speaker and on-site instructor for this event.

Abstract:

Large language models (LLMs) have evolved far beyond simple conversational chatbots into sophisticated AI agents capable of autonomously planning complex tasks, invoking external tools, and delivering production‑ready outcomes. This seminar will take a deep dive into the underlying technologies, examining how AI agents can significantly boost efficiency in everyday teaching and research, while also offering hands‑on practical experience. We will cover the transition from prompt engineering to fully autonomous agents, the "Harness Engineering" infrastructure required for reliable production deployment, the MCP (Model Context Protocol) framework, and how CodeBuddy enables non‑programmers to build functional applications using nothing but plain‑text instructions. Concrete use cases of generative AI in higher education will be discussed across teaching, research, and administrative settings. Participants will have the opportunity to use CodeBuddy/WorkBuddy to generate executable code, structured documents, data visualisations, and even multimodal content from simple text prompts—all without any prior coding experience.
從聊天機器人到AI智能體,大模型(LLM)已經遠遠超越了基本的對話工具——它們現在能夠自主地規劃任務、執行工具並交付生產級成果。本次報告將深入剖析其底層技術,探討AI智能體如何幫助日常教學與科研的效率,並提供實務操作體驗。我們將討論從提示工程到自主智能體的過渡、面向生產環境所需的「Harness Engineering」基礎設施、MCP協議,以及CodeBuddy如何幫助非程式設計師使用純文字語言建立功能性應用程式。我們將具體討論生成式 AI 在大學教學、科學研究、行政場景中的應用案例,如文獻研究、課件製作、自動化科學研究。在互動式環節,參與者將使用CodeBuddy/WorkBuddy,根據簡單的文字指令產生程式碼、文件、資料視覺化和多模態資源,無需任何程式設計經驗。

Yongjie Liu has over ten years of technical experience. He has worked at hardware companies such as Huawei and at Tencent Cloud, with expertise spanning hardware infrastructure and cloud computing. He has accumulated extensive experience in architecture design and project delivery through large-scale government and enterprise projects, including smart city and smart fire protection initiatives.
劉永傑擁有超過十年的技術工作經驗,曾先後任職於華為等硬件企業及騰訊雲,專業領域橫跨硬件基礎設施與雲計算。在智慧城市、智慧消防等大型政企項目中,積累了豐富的架構設計與項目交付經驗。
He also provided in-depth support for the launch of the SciencePal project at the Hong Kong AI Lab (HKAI Lab), facilitating the implementation of AI research tools in academic scenarios.
他亦曾深度支持香港人工智能研究院(HKAI Lab)SciencePal 項目上線,助力科研 AI 工具在學術場景中的落地與應用。
