Joint Medicine-Engineering Laboratory established with Peking University Third Hospital
On the path of promoting medicine-engineering integration, PolyU has encountered like-minded partners. Among them is Peking University Third Hospital (PUTH), which shares a vision of fostering interdisciplinary medicine-engineering collaboration to drive advancements in healthcare technology. Recently, PolyU and PUTH have joined hands to establish the Medicine-Engineering Collaborative Innovation Research Laboratory, marking a significant milestone in deepening collaboration between the two leading institutions in the fields of medicine and engineering.
The unveiling ceremony of the Laboratory in Beijing was officiated by Professor Wing-tak Wong, Deputy President and Provost of PolyU; Professor H.C. Man, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of PolyU; Professor Fu Wei, PUTH President; Professor Shen Ning, PUTH Vice President; and Professor Yuan Chunhui, Director of the Department of General Surgery of PUTH. The event also included the launch and signing ceremony for the laboratory’s three-year scientific research plan.
Aligned with the national strategy of “medical-engineering collaborative innovation”, the two institutions aim to drive practical innovation in smart healthcare. Professor Wong expressed his hope that the Laboratory would leverage PolyU’s strengths in medicine-engineering integration and facilitate collaboration with PUTH to advance medical technology and benefit society at large.
Professor Fu highlighted that medicine-engineering collaborative innovation is a driving force behind modern medical advancements. He expressed optimism that this partnership would accelerate the alignment between clinical needs and engineering solutions, promote the rapid translation of innovations, and significantly impact the quality of medical technologies.
The PolyU delegation toured the teaching and research facilities at PUTH, the Peking University Health Science Center, and the Peking University Medical Museum. Additionally, the two institutions engaged in discussions on topics such as surgical navigation, virtual reality simulation training, and biomaterials compatibility.
Beyond its collaboration with PUTH, PolyU has established partnerships with several universities in the Mainland and is actively preparing for the establishment of the third medical school in Hong Kong to meet the high demand for quality healthcare services in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area.
