Prof. LUO Wei

Assistant Professor

Biography

Dr. LUO Wei received his PhD degree from Nanjing University, China. Prior to joining The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, he conducted postdoctoral research at the Center for Photonic Innovations, The University of Electro-Communications, Japan, and the Quantum Science and Engineering Centre, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

Dr. Luo has over a decade of research experience in photonic integrated circuits, integrated quantum photonics, quantum communications, fiber optics, nonlinear photonics, and optical sensing. His research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including Light: Science & ApplicationsPhysical Review Letters, and Laser & Photonics Reviews. His research contributions include the demonstration of fully chip-based measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution systems, as well as recent work on quantum photonic chips for quantum communication and quantum machine learning.

His current research focuses on integrated photonics and quantum communications, together with AI-driven photonic design automation (PDA). In particular, he is developing large language model (LLM) agents and multi-agent systems to automate the modeling, optimization, layout generation, and control of photonic integrated circuits (PICs), enabling scalable and intelligent design of photonic quantum and classical systems.

Dr. Luo is currently recruiting motivated PhD students and postdoctoral fellows. Interested applicants are encouraged to contact him by email at wei-hc.luo@polyu.edu.hk.
