Biography

 

Ir Dr Ben Lau is Interim Vice President (Campus and Facilities) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). He is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight for all initiatives related to campus development and facilities management with an aim to create a sustainable, secure and smart campus that promotes collaboration and innovation across the PolyU community.

Dr Lau has held senior management positions at PolyU, progressing through the ranks to become Director of Campus Development in 2022 and Associate Vice President (Campus and Facilities) in 2025. During this period of time, he oversaw a number of key projects, including the iconic University Main Entrance, the multi-award-winning University Library and the multifunctional University Square. Prior to joining PolyU, Dr Lau accumulated over 25 years of experience working for leading property developers, including the New World Development Company Limited, Cheung Kong (Holdings) Limited and Las Vegas Sands Corporation.

Dr Lau holds a Doctorate in International Real Estate and Construction, a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering and a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Accountancy. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Chartered Building Surveyor, and a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. 

Dr Lau is a member of the Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) Vetting Sub-committee on the Construction Innovation and Technology Fund of the Construction Industry Council.
