Associate Vice President (Campus and Facilities)

Ir Dr Ben Lau is Associate Vice President (Campus and Facilities) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). He is responsible for steering and implementing PolyU’s initiatives in campus development and enhancement, facilities management, and health and safety to support the University’s strategic development.

Dr Lau has held a series of senior management positions at PolyU, rising through the ranks to become Director of Campus Development in 2022 and Associate Vice President (Campus and Facilities) in 2025. During his tenure, he has successfully steered several landmark projects, including the iconic Main Entrance, the multi-award-winning Library, and the multifunctional University Square. Notably, Dr Lau spearheaded the initiative to revise the main campus building height restrictions — a strategic achievement that effectively doubled the maximum allowable height, significantly expanding the university’s capacity for future growth.

Prior to joining PolyU, Dr Lau accumulated over 25 years of experience working for leading property developers, including the New World Development Company Limited, Cheung Kong (Holdings) Limited and Las Vegas Sands Corporation.

Dr Lau holds a Doctorate in International Real Estate and Construction, a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering and a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Accountancy. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Chartered Building Surveyor, and a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Dr Lau is a member of the Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) Vetting Sub-committee on the Construction Innovation and Technology Fund of the Construction Industry Council.
