2026 Volunteers Recruitment for the Digital Reconstruction Project
Job Summary
The PolyU Research Centre for Cultural and Art Technology and the PolyU-NVIDIA Joint Research Centre are pleased to invite high-skilled students to join our Digital Reconstruction Project, scheduled to run from February to July 2026. This professional opportunity offers a hybrid working arrangement, providing flexibility while maintaining collaborative engagement. We welcome talented students from both PolyU and international universities. Volunteers will contribute to meaningful work in key focus areas including industrial technology applications, preservation of intangible cultural heritage, and advanced digital modeling techniques.
Project: Digital Reconstruction of Intangible Cultural Heritage
Working Mode: In-person (for students studying in Hong Kong only) or remote
Duration: 8 hours per week during February to July 2026, to be negotiated
Project Description:
We are currently developing a digital reconstruction project for intangible cultural heritage. We are seeking individuals with experience in 3D modeling and texturing for scenes/buildings, character models, and props. As a member of our team, you will receive a volunteer certificate from the PolyU-NVIDIA Joint Research Centre and have the opportunity to participate in the exhibition of the project results.
(Orientation 1) * - 3D modeling and texturing in the architectural field, proficient in using any modeling software such as Rhino / SketchUp / 3ds Max / Maya or Blender, with the ability to create large-scale scene models and architectural textures. Capable of performing lighting design and scene rendering in Unreal Engine.
(Orientation 2) * - 3D modeling and texturing of character models, proficient in using any modeling software such as Blender / Maya / Cinema 4D / 3ds Max or ZBrush, with the ability to create 3D character models and produce textures through painting. Familiar with Unreal Engine Blueprints and capable of rendering models within Unreal Engine.
(Orientation 3) * - 3D modeling and texturing of props, proficient in using any modeling software such as Blender / Maya / Cinema 4D / 3ds Max or ZBrush, with the ability to create 3D prop models and produce textures. Familiar with Unreal Engine Blueprints and capable of assembling and rendering models within Unreal Engine.
(Orientation 4) * - Data Collection Engineer, focusing on collecting image and video data from the internet and creating multimodal models. This position will involve tasks such as data classification, data preprocessing, and data labeling.
Core Responsibilities:
(Orientation 1- Orientation 3)
- Possesses a strong sense of artistic aesthetics.
- Creates digital 3D content such as scenes, characters, and props according to project requirements.
- Demonstrates good teamwork spirit.
- Provides regular updates on project progress, participates in project meetings, contributes actively, and offers the latest information while receiving feedback on project advancements
(Orientation 4)
- Utilize web scraping techniques to collect required image and video data from the internet.
- Create and maintain multimodal models, conducting data classification and preprocessing.
- Annotate datasets to ensure accuracy and completeness of the data.
- Train multimodal models, applying foundational knowledge to optimize model performance.
- Collaborate with the team to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of data collection and processing.
Required Skills:
(Orientation 1- Orientation 3)
- Strong experience in 3D modeling.
- Experience in scene setup using Unreal Engine, with familiarity in Unreal Engine Blueprints.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
(Orientation 4)
- Familiarity with commonly used web scraping frameworks and tools (such as Scrapy, Beautiful Soup, etc.).
- Relevant experience in data annotation and processing.
- Understanding of the fundamentals of building and training multimodal models.
- Strong programming skills, with proficiency in Python or other programming languages.
- Excellent communication skills and a strong spirit of teamwork.

Volunteer Job Offer
Volunteers who complete their service for the agreed hours with satisfactory performance will receive an official Volunteer Certificate issued by PolyU-NVIDIA Joint Research Centre.
