TLIT workshops in October open for registration

 A list of TLIT workshops covering various topics such as practical use of Turnitin and MS Excel, animation production at both beginner and intermediate levels and game development at basic level will be organized in October. Students who are interested are welcome to join.

 

Turnitin Workshop

Turnitin is an online plagiarism detection tool available in LEARN@PolyU (理學網), the University’s online Blackboard learning management system.

This workshop, includes 2 identical sessions, will guide you the steps using Turnitin to avoid plagiarism by checking the originality of your assignments, dissertations and journal papers with similarity reports.

Create a Macro in Microsoft Excel

If you have tasks in Microsoft Excel that you do repeatedly, you can leverage macro to automate those tasks. A macro is an action or a set of actions that you can run as many times as you want for data management. In this workshop, we will guide you step-by-step the use of macro to analyse raw data and prepare report. 2 identical sessions will be offered.

Animated Content Production – Vyond (Basic)

This workshop is designed for beginners to learn the skills in creating animated video using the cloud-based 2D animation platform 'Vyond'. You will learn how to use the animation editor and character creator to design storyboard and enhance the animation with dynamic data charts, character body mechanics and emotion, text-to-speech dialogs, background music and sound effects. To make a unique design, you can also upload images, logos, photos and video clips to the animation.

Animated Content Production – Vyond (Intermediate)

The intermediate level of ‘Animation Content Production' workshop will be offered to guide you the whole process of creating an entire service promotion video using Vyond and how to publish it.

Game Development Workshop - Unreal Engine Basic 1

This session covers the fundamentals of Unreal Engine and its tools, including the Unreal Editor interface, the various building blocks of the engine, and other important aspects you should know to begin your journey with Unreal Engine.

Game Development Workshop - Unreal Engine Basic 2

This session provides information on using art created in external applications, importing it into Unreal Engine 4, and setting it up for use in visualization and interactive applications. Information on the tools and techniques for interactive environment and level design will also be discussed. You will learn about rendering subsystem including lighting and shadowing, materials and textures, visual effects, and post processing, and how to use the programming and scripting languages and tools for controlling Unreal Engine programmatically at runtime.

Game Development Workshop - Using Magic Leap One in Unreal Engine

In this hands-on workshop, we will introduce the basics of using Magic Leap in Unreal Engine and utilize its many inputs to showcase an architectural scale model. It covers setting up the Magic Leap SDK in Unreal Engine, importing a Revit model using the Datasmith plugin, and how to manipulate the model with your head, hands, and motion controller in an augmented reality environment.

We welcome and encourage students to attend this hands-on Unreal Engine workshop and wear the Magic Leap One device in person in our ITS TLIT lab. For those who are interested in the Magic Leap platform but do not have a device, we also cover using the Magic Leap Simulator.
