Caring for Our Staff

Occupational Health and Safety

The University strives to protect the health and safety of all our staff, as illustrated by our goal of achieving zero workplace accidents. Our Health and Safety Policy maintains and monitors our safety performance and provides relevant training and education sessions. A Health and Safety Committee, chaired by the Vice President (Campus Development and Facilities), oversees the implementation of the health and safety policy and promotes safe practices and general awareness of health-related issues within the University. The Health, Safety and Environment Office (HSEO) is responsible for coordinating all procedures, guidelines, and codes of practice regarding various aspects of occupational health and safety at PolyU.

The HSEO maintains consistent two-way communication with Departmental Health and Safety Officers (DHSOs) and other safety personnel. Engagement platforms and seminar series are conducted on a regular basis to update and collect feedback from our internal stakeholders. In turn, this drives improvements to our occupational health and safety guidelines and protocols and helps us deliver health and safety information. A newsletter called “We-Safety” is issued regularly, keeping readers informed about on-campus safety updates; to create further engagement, the newsletter’s “We-Challenge” section contains an interactive mini-quiz which helps increase staff participation. During the reporting year, the HSEO also collaborated with different DHSOs to film safety awareness videos which have been made publicly available on the HSEO website.
