Cangwu Literary Society Activities 2025

Student Corner

The Cangwu Literary Society at the Chinese Language Centre was established in 2019. It has been dedicated to inheriting a humanistic spirit and promoting a culture of reading and writing. This year, Cangwu successfully held the following activities:

CLC-BookChatBook Chat: Centred on the theme ‘Power Struggles on the Tip of the Tongue: Food Imagery and Symbols in Lee Pik Wah’s Works,’ this session invited students to explore the bizarre, grotesque, enchanting, and poignant literary world of the renowned Hong Kong author. Through guided discussion, participants examined how food imagery serves as a powerful symbol of desire, identity, and conflict in her writing.

CLC-CaoRuiwen_rPoetry Workshop: Led by Ms Cao Ruiwen, a PolyU student who has won multiple awards in poetry competitions, this workshop introduced the fundamentals of classical poetry composition. It covered the principles of writing jueju and lushi, while also offering personal experiences and creative insights from Ms Cao. Notably, Ms Cao won first runner-up in the student category of the 34th Chinese Poetry Writing Competition with her piece Du Fu Jiang Ge, written in the form of Bu Suan Zi. The winning entries were showcased on the Hong Kong Public Libraries website and displayed in major libraries from February to April 2025, inviting the public to appreciate these outstanding works.

CLC-DiscussionForumDiscussion Forum: Titled ‘The Literary Homeland in the Sound of Tides: Decoding Rural Narratives from Swimming out till the Sea Turns Blue,’ this forum explored the themes of ‘homeland’ and ‘sense of belonging’ in the works of Chinese writers such as Yu Hua, Jia Pingwa, and Mo Yan.
