Student conference Showcases Success of Gifted Education Fund Programme

Student Corner

Nine students taking the subject ENGL3040 Language Matters: Navigating Social Issues through Linguistic Inquiry presented at the 15th ECOShow 2025 student conference from 15 – 16 May 2025, held at the University of Seville, Spain. Representatives from five groups travelled to Seville to present their projects on sociolinguistic issues, most of which had been developed together with students from the University of Seville. These projects researched specific sociolinguistic issues and developed practical solutions to answer challenges identified during the research phase. At the ECOShow, over 50 interdisciplinary groups from universities in Spain and abroad presented their projects.

One of our PolyU teams, which investigated how tattoos are perceived by different social groups, won the Best Project award under the "Development" category. Students took advantage of the trip to visit the Alcazar, a 15th-century palace, as well as the cathedral and other cultural sites.
