Programme Aims & Learning Outcomes

The BSc(Hons) in Information Security focuses on analyzing information security problems and designing appropriate solutions. The programme equips students with solid foundations on theories related to information security for solving practical problems in different settings.

The curriculum includes the following major subject areas: Authentication Systems, Cryptography, Data Security, Penetration Testing, Security Architecture and Design, and Network Security.

Graduates are equipped to become information security specialists. With the transition to knowledge society and the shifting of the ICT sector towards Cloud Computing and mobile communication, career opportunities in Information Security are enormous in Hong Kong and worldwide.

Programme Characteristics

This government-funded top-up degree programme offers a good mix of basic theory, hands-on practices and application examples. In the second semester of Year One, students can make use of the knowledge they have acquired to conduct an integrated project. During the summer of Year One, students have the opportunity to join an internship programme. In the Final Year, students can focus on selected areas by choosing relevant electives, such as crypto-currency, digital forensics, information system audit, intrusion detection and penetration testing and surveillance technologies.


Programme Structure

Subjects can be categorised into 4 main groups: (i) fundamentals, (ii) core security technologies, (iii) applications and (iv) projects.

Year One: a strengthening year with fundamental subjects, core security technologies subjects and an integrated project.

Final Year: a capstone project and specialization in areas such as information system audit, e-payment system, digital forensics, penetration system and data security.

Entrance Requirements

An Associate Degree or Higher Diploma from a recognized institution in Information Technology, Computer Studies, Computing, Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Information Engineering, Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or other similar disciplines.
