From September 11 to 14, 2026, the 2026 International Forum on Frontiers of Vibration Theory and Applications (FFVTA 2026) was held at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The forum was organized by The Chinese Society for Vibration Engineering and hosted by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, CNERC-Rail (HK Branch), and the PolyU Hangzhou Technology and Innovation Research Institute. Prof. Wan-Ming Zhai, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, President of the Chinese Society for Vibration Engineering, and Professor at Southwest Jiaotong University, served as Chair of the Forum. Prof. Yi-Qing Ni, Chair Professor of Intelligent Structures and Rail Transit at PolyU and Director of the PolyU Hangzhou Technology and Innovation Research Institute, Director of CNERC-Rail (HK Branch), served as Executive Chair.
At the opening ceremony, Prof. Ni delivered the welcome speech on behalf of the Organising Committee, while Prof. Zhai delivered the opening speech. The keynote sessions were chaired by Prof. Hui Li, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Vice President of the Chinese Society for Vibration Engineering, and Professor at Harbin Institute of Technology. Keynote presentations were delivered by Prof. Zhai, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of the Chinese Society for Vibration Engineering; Prof. Jian Xu, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chief Scientist of China National Machinery Industry Corporation; and Prof. Jie Li, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chair of the Supervisory Board of the Chinese Society for Vibration Engineering, and Professor at Tongji University. Prof. Guang Meng, Deputy Chair of the University Council of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Associate Prof. Olga Fink of EPFL also delivered invited presentations.
The forum brought together more than 130 experts and scholars from Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, and overseas. The forum featured an engaging academic program of keynote presentations, thematic presentations, poster displays, and panel discussions, covering a range of topics in vibration theory and applications. Focusing on key research challenges, non-consensus issues, and strategic frontiers in vibration engineering, the forum featured four themes: Complex System Dynamics; Vibration Control and Energy Harvesting; Random Vibration and Reliability; and Structural Health Monitoring and Engineering Diagnostics.
The discussions covered a range of emerging topics, including physics-informed machine learning, nonlinear model reduction, intelligent vibration isolation and energy harvesting, seismic response simulation, wind turbine vibration control, bridge and tunnel health assessment, vision-based monitoring, and low-altitude infrastructure inspection and maintenance. These exchanges highlighted recent research advances and emerging trends in vibration engineering, while providing opportunities for participants to discuss fundamental scientific questions and practical engineering challenges.
The forum provided a valuable platform for academic exchange and collaboration in vibration engineering, bringing together researchers from Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, and the international communities. It strengthened cross-regional and interdisciplinary collaboration and contributed to the advancement of vibration theory, engineering technologies, and their applications.
