Welcome Message of the Chairman

 

It is my privilege to inform you that the CIB World Building Congress 2019 (CIB WBC 2019) will be held in Hong Kong from 17 to 21 June 2019. The Congress is jointly hosted by the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB) and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University’s Department of Building and Real Estate (BRE).

Led by the theme ‘Constructing Smart Cities’, the CIB WBC 2019 will provide a platform to explore the smart city development and its role in society. This triennial congress will focus on 8 sub-themes:

  • Smart Utilities and Facilities Management
  • Smart Governance, Policy and Economy
  • Smart Environment
  • Smart Service
  • Smart Buildings and Infrastructure
  • Smart Transportation and Mobility
  • Smart People and Living
  • Smart Planning, Design and Construction

Building and construction industry specialists, researchers, and policymakers will convene in Hong Kong for the 5-day World Building Congress. Local, regional and internationally renowned industry specialists will deliver keynote talks, case studies and dynamic presentations to reveal the latest smart building, construction and infrastructure trends, practices and developments.

The CIB World Building Congress is regarded as the leading construction research and innovation conference worldwide. Panel discussions, workshops, networking events, site tours, and lab visits will offer participants invaluable opportunities to interact and meet researchers, policymakers, and industry peers from across the globe and gain knowledge and insights into creating the smarter and more sustainable cities of the future.

BRE is honoured to host this triennial congress in Hong Kong. BRE has a multi-disciplinary team of faculty members who possess expertise in the respective fields of surveying, engineering, town planning, building technology, real estate, finance, law and economics. BRE is recognized internationally for research strengths and actively participates in a wide variety of high-quality application-oriented research projects and consultancies. Amongst these, according to a 2014 research paper published by the Journal of Construction and Building Materials, BRE faculty members and colleagues of other sister departments within the Faculty of Construction and Environment, top the world in terms of publications related to construction and building technology.

On behalf of both organisers, I would like to invite you to the CIB WBC 2019 ‘Constructing Smart Cities’ in Hong Kong! This vibrant city is the ideal location for such a renowned event. Its geographical and economic position as a gateway between the East and West makes it an unparalleled destination for international trade.
