Getting to and from the airport
Recognised as one of the most superior airports in the world, Hong Kong International Airport offers a comprehensive range of facilities and services to travellers entering and leaving Hong Kong. If you arrive in the city by plane, from the airport you’ll have direct access to train, bus, taxi and hotel transport to get you to and around town, as well as shuttle buses and high-speed ferries to transport you to Mainland China.
Passenger departure tax and surcharges
All passengers aged 12 and above departing Hong Kong International Airport must pay a HK$120 Air Passenger Departure Tax, which is waived for passengers who arrive and depart on the same day. There is also a security charge of HK$45 to maintain the standards of safety, security and passenger services currently required at international airports, and from 1 August 2016 onwards, an Airport Construction Fee ranging from $70 to $180. All of these surcharges are normally included in the price of the airline ticket.

Transport to and from the airport: within Hong Kong
Train
The MTR’s high-speed Airport Express train is the fastest transport link to the airport and takes approximately 24 minutes to reach Hong Kong Island. Airport Express passengers can catch a free shuttle bus from Kowloon and Hong Kong stations to major hotels. Both these stations also provide free in-town check-in services for major airlines when you’re returning to the airport. Please contact your airline for further information.

Taxi
Taxis are readily available from the taxi pick-up area in front of the airport’s Arrivals Hall. If you’re travelling to Hong Kong Island or Kowloon you’ll need to catch a red taxi. If you’re headed for the New Territories you’ll need a green taxi, and those going to Lantau Island will require a blue taxi. All taxis in Hong Kong are able to take passengers to and from the airport. Fares are metered and detailed information about charges are clearly displayed inside each cab.

Bus
There are 12 convenient Airbus ‘A’ routes that can take you from the airport to key locations on Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and in the New Territories (including Lantau Island) with fewer stops than an ordinary city bus. When you exit the Arrivals Hall, turn right to find Airbuses and city buses.

Coach and limousine charter
Passengers who require their own personal limousines, minivans, vans and group coaches (buses) can book their transport from service providers located in the Arrivals Hall of Terminal 1 or in the coach station located in Terminal 2.

Transport to and from the airport: Mainland China
Hong Kong International Airport also serves as a land and sea transport hub for direct links to Mainland China.

Coach
There is a coach station servicing Mainland China located in Terminal 2 that offers coach (bus) services to major cities in Guangdong Province.

Ferry
Passengers transiting through Hong Kong International Airport on their way to one of eight ferry ports in the Pearl River Delta do not need to go through immigration and customs or reclaim baggage. Ferry tickets are sold at the Mainland/Macau Ticketing Counter located at Transfer Area E2 in Terminal 1. Passengers will then take the automated people mover to SkyPier to board one of the high-speed ferries.
