Grooming Future Leaders

Service-Learning in Belt Road countries

PolyU is the first university in Hong Kong to incorporate Service-Learning as a mandatory graduation requirement. By doing so, we open students’ minds and giving them a better understanding of the importance of social inclusion and serving the underprivileged. In 2012-2018, 1,000 PolyU students joined the Belt and Road Service-Learning programmes in Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar and etc.

Silk Road Youth Leadership Programme

Our Global Youth Leadership and Service Learning Institute offers a wide range of cross-cultural, innovative and reflective youth leadership programmes based on positive values and community engagement with the aim to nurture students to become ethical global leaders.

In 2014-2018, 900 student leaders joined the programme.

Silk Road International Summer School

Organised by PolyU and Xi'an Jiaotong University, the Silk Road International Summer School provides opportunities for students to understand the Silk Road’s history, culture and development opportunities in the region.  In 2014-2018, 600 students from PolyU, Chinese mainland and Belt and Road countries participated in this four-week summer programme.

International Work-Integrated Education Programme in Belt Road countries

PolyU places top priority in nurturing all-round students with professional competence. All undergraduate students are required to complete a mandatory Work-Integrated Education (WIE) programme. In view of the opportunities along the Belt and Road, the University also offers offshore placement opportunities for students to obtain valuable overseas working experience in this region. In 2014-2017, 536 PolyU students got the chance to work in 32 Belt and Road countries respectively, including Egypt, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Russia, Sri-Lanka and etc.  >>  WIE in One Belt One Road
