Dr Guo received his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics from Beijing Normal University in 2006. He obtained the degrees of Master of Philosophy, and Doctor of Philosophy, in 2008 and 2011 respectively, in applied mathematics, from City University of Hong Kong. After that, he worked in City University of Hong Kong as Research Fellow. From February 2013, Dr Guo worked at Duke University as Postdoctoral Associate. He joined The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2014 as Research Assistant Professor, and as Assistant Professor in 2016. Dr Guo's research interests cover statistical learning theory (kernel methods, stochastic gradient methods, support vector machine, pairwise learning, online learning, error analysis, sparsity analysis, and the implementation of algorithms), mathematical data science, and their applications to immunological bioinformatics, systems biology, and computational social science.
