Aims and Characteristics

Programme Aims

This programme aims to equip highly skilled graduates with:

  1. In-depth understanding of the operation of aviation engineering including aircraft and aviation systems, airworthiness and up-to-date technologies, as well as specialized knowledge in a chosen stream of study.

  2. Competence to handle different engineering problems academically and practically in the aviation industry.

  3. Sufficient knowledge to manage and solve problems through effective and efficient project management and planning.

  4. Confidence in communication with different stakeholders by the use of state-of-the arts technologies and aviation language.

Programme Characteristics

The Aviation Engineering Scheme aims to train students to become aeronautical and aviation engineers who possess strong skills in and in-depth knowledge of engineering and engineering management, as well as a sense of social and environmental responsibility.

BEng (Hons) in Aeronautical Engineering

Graduates are equipped to pursue careers in aircraft maintenance engineering, aircraft component engineering, aeronautical engineering, aircraft design, control and propulsion systems, navigation, unmanned aerial vehicles and many other engineering disciplines. The programme provides hands-on experience with the support of state-of-the-art facilities, such as supersonic wind tunnels, UAV testing systems and material manufacturing and testing platforms.

BEng (Hons) in Air Transport Engineering

Graduates are equipped to pursue careers in air transport engineering, airport/airline operations and management, aviation safety, air logistics and supply chain management and human factors engineering. The programme provides hands-on experience with the support of state-of-the-art facilities, such as the Cockpitsonic A320 FTD flight simulator, Cessna flight simulator, avionics systems and human factors equipment.

All admitted students will embark on a Common Year One curriculum. Towards the end of year one, students can decide whether to continue with their initial choice or switch to another choice within the Faculty of Engineering. Those who wish to change to another choice need to join a competitive process through a ranking assessment, which considers a combination of entrance qualification score, Year One GPA, and interview performance.
