Summary

Abstract

Position and navigation have become increasingly indispensable in a variety of applications, e.g., unmanned aerial vehicles, intelligent transportation, and social networking. Nevertheless, the position solution solely relying on global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers in urban canyons may be inaccurate or even not available. Cellular long-term evolution (LTE) signals are potential signals-of-opportunity for position and navigation. However, accurate and reliable tracking of LTE signals under highly dynamic urban channel conditions remains a challenging task.

This talk will present the LTE software-defined radio receiver design for urban navigation. The distinct structure of the LTE signal compared to those of the GNSS signals will be discussed. LTE signal processing algorithms with adaptive multipath mitigation will be explained. Both simulation and experimental results under severe multipath propagation conditions will be presented to show the superior ranging and multipath estimation performances of the proposed method over several state-of-the-art techniques.

Speaker

Dr Pai Wang is a tenure-track Associate Professor at the School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China. Her research interests include navigation using signals of opportunity and GNSS receiver anti-jamming. She was a Research Associate at the Smead Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences of the University of Colorado Boulder, USA, from 2018 to 2021. She received her BEng degree in Information Engineering and her PhD degree in Information and Communication Engineering from the Beijing Institute of Technology, China, in 2012 and 2018 respectively.
