Jianguo Mei is currently Richard and Judith Wien Associate Professor of Chemistry at Purdue University. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers with over 13000 citations, 4 book chapters, and 18 granted US patents. Dr. Mei is a recipient of an NSF CAREER award, Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award (ONR YIP), ACS PMSE Young Investigator, ACS Division of Organic Chemistry (DOC) Academic Young Investigator, and Purdue’s Teaching for Tomorrow Fellow and IPACT Fellow. He is also a co-Founder of Ambilight Inc, a venture-backed Silicon Valley startup dedicated to the commercialization of roll-to-roll manufactured thin-film electrochromic for smart windows.

High-Temperature Organic Electronics

 

Abstract

Plastics are arguably the most ubiquitous structural materials mankind invented, while semiconducting polymers, one kind of special plastics, present their unique optical and electronic characteristics and have attracted wide interest from biomedical to electronic applications. In this talk, I will focus on our latest development of high-tempearture organic semiconductors and organic conductors. In particular, I will share how we improve the thermal stability and durability of the devices through molecular engineering and device engineering. Through the fundamental understanding, we are able to achieve all-plastic organic transistors that can durably function under extreme heat with operation temperatures as high as 195 ℃. This research expands our knowledge of charge transport in conjugated polymers at high temperatures and provides a guide to making organic transistors for extreme conditions in the future.
