The Research Centre for Professional Communication in English (RCPCE) in the Department of English and Communication and HK PolyU-PKU Research Centre on Chinese Linguistics (RP2U2) in the Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies jointly hosted the 29th Joint Workshop on Linguistics and Language Processing (JWLLP) on 4 June 2021. This year’s workshop featured a special panel on “Metaphor and Mediator”. Prof. dr. Christian Burgers from the VU Amsterdam and University of Amsterdam delivered a keynote speech entitled “The Persuasive Power of Figurative Frames in Political Discourse” at the panel. 21 speakers and 280 participants from over 30 countries/regions worldwide attended the workshop.

JWLLP was initiated by professors from Japan, Korea, and Hong Kong to promote an intersection among researchers with different research backgrounds related to language, linguistic theories, and natural language processing. The 30th JWLLP will be organised by the University of Macau.
