Development and Validation of ChatMyopia: A trustworthy AI agent for clinical decision support in Myopia management

Synopsis

ChatMyopia is a novel AI system designed to improve the management of myopia, particularly in East Asia where its prevalence is rising among youth. It adapts the modular EyeAgent framework to orchestrate specialized imaging and analysis tools through a central reasoning engine, providing transparent, stepwise decision support and enabling human-AI collaboration. The project aims to develop myopia-specific AI tools, implement an interpretable clinician copilot interface, and evaluate the system through a prospective paired clinical trial at certain hospital and PolyU Optometry Clinic. ChatMyopia is expected to standardize myopia management, optimize therapy selection, and enhance clinical efficiency, ultimately delivering a validated, auditable AI assistant ready for clinical integration in ophthalmology.
