世界青少年人工智能 X 機械車大賽

The World Youth Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) X Robotic Car Competition is a joint deliverable of two service-learning subjects being offered at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) – COMP2S01 Technology Beyond Borders: Service Learning across Cultural, Ethnic and Community Lines and BME2S04 Reducing the Scientific Divide in Primary and Secondary Students through STEM Projects. Carrying the subjects’ ethos in promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) literacy to underprivileged youths from within and beyond the Hong Kong society, this Competition engaged PolyU students to transfer knowledge about machine-learning and engineering design thinking to their younger peers in Hong Kong, South Africa, and Vietnam with an innovative theme of colorectal health. In the final showdown, primary school learners coached respectively by the PolyU students in building a remote-controlled robotic car and developing an A.I. programme for object recognition work together to “literally remove” unhealthy toy food from a colon-like race track to promote the importance of healthy diet and cancer prevention.

香港理工大學生物醫學工程學系及電子計算學系首次聯手開辦服務學習學分制學科,並合辦「世界青少年人工智能 X 機械車大賽」,向本地及海外的青少年推廣STEM。是次比賽以大腸健康作主題,本地、南非及越南的青少年在理大學生的指導下,學習機器學習及工程設計等知識,並製作人工智能辨認物件程式及建造遙控機械車來進行比賽,務求發揮團隊精神,合力清理大腸賽道上的不健康食物,以宣傳健康飲食和預防大腸癌的重要性。

Three categories of awards are in the project:
本項目共分為以下三個比賽:

Team Ranking: Participants must use a robotic car to push the unhealthy food out of track within three rounds (3 mins per round), then use the program with Scratch and Teachable Machine to recognize the food and calculate the risk indexes. The team with the lowest risk index will win the competition.
School Ranking: The sum of risk indexes generated by the best three teams from each participating unit. The unit with the lowest risk index will win the competition. 
隊際排名: 參賽者需於三個回合(每個回合3分鐘)內,運用機械車,將腸道內的垃圾食物推出,並運用Scratch及Teachable Machine編寫程式來辨認所推出的食物,及計算大腸癌風險指數。大腸癌風險指數較低的組別勝出。
校際排名: 把每個參賽單位(學校或團體)中表現最好的三隊成績合計,由得出大腸癌綜合指數較低的單位勝出。
Participants are required to build their robotic cars with decoration for the competition. The Judging Panel will select the best design according to creativity, aesthetics and usability.
參賽者需設計及製作機械車來進行比賽。評審將按照作品的創意、美觀和實用性來選出最佳作品。
Participants should create an A.I. program to recognize the food and calculate the risk indexes. They can add any sprites, backdrops or background story to furnish the program. The Judging Panel will select the best program based on creativity, aesthetics and usability.
參賽者需製作人工智能程式來辨認食物和計算大腸癌風險指數,可加上任何角色、故事背景來美化作品。評審將按照作品的創意、美觀和實用性來選出最佳作品。
