Hospitality Icon Horst Schulze Honoured with SHTM Lifetime Achievement Award

The global hospitality industry celebrated another historic milestone on 5 June 2026. Mr Horst Schulze, founding member of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company and founder of the Capella Hotel Group, was officially inducted into the Gallery of Honour of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU).

The induction took place during a celebratory gala dinner, where Mr Schulze was also bestowed the prestigious SHTM Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his outstanding career and lasting contributions to the industry.

15th Asia Tourism Forum Successfully Held in Ulaanbaatar

The SHTM was proud to partner with the Mongolia Tourism Organisation to co-organise the 15th Asia Tourism Forum (ATF), held in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, from 11 to 13 June 2026.

CHE Workshop Offers Professional Recognition to Hospitality Educators

From 23 to 26 June 2026, the SHTM hosted a Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) workshop, which resulted in professional recognition for the participants.

IMPACT2026: Transforming Hospitality and Tourism for a Sustainable Future

Organised by the SHTM and the Research Centre for Digital Transformation of Tourism, the IMPACT2026 conference will be held in Hong Kong from 6 to 8 December 2026.

Undergraduate Student Research Competition @ IMPACT2026

The Undergraduate Student Research Competition aims to showcase undergraduate students' theoretical knowledge and research skills and to extend their knowledge in hospitality, tourism, event management and other related fields.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND RECOGNITION

The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Hong Kong SHTM Student Chapter received the Student Club of the Year Award 2025/26.

SHTM VISITORS

13 July – The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel

Prof Noam Shoval, Professor, Department of Spatial Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, led a group of 38 staff members and students on a visit to the SHTM and Hotel ICON.

WORKSHOPS

Mr Horst Schulze, founding member of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company and founder of the Capella Hotel Group, delivered a Dean's Distinguished Lecture entitled "Excellence Wins" on 5 June 2026. The inspirational event culminated in an exclusive book-signing session with Mr Schulze on SHTM premises.
