CHE Workshop Offers Professional Recognition to Hospitality Educators
From 23 to 26 June 2026, the SHTM hosted a Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) workshop, which resulted in professional recognition for the participants. The workshop was led by Mr George Ubbelohde on behalf of the School and the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI), with the assistance of Associate Professors Deniz Kucukusta and Ada Lo.

The CHE workshop offered an exclusive four-day professional development workshop. Fifteen participants connected with other educators as they discussed and practised the latest global teaching principles and skills to provide the best possible educational experience for hospitality students.

The CHE workshop offers continuing education and professional development opportunities to all hospitality educators. However, it is particularly useful for teachers with extensive industry experience, as it focuses on interactive teaching skills.

After completing the CHE requirements, the participants could choose to take the examination on the final day to obtain AHLEI certification. The CHE designation recognises individuals who have demonstrated the qualities required to become effective hospitality educators. It is valued by hospitality educators worldwide because it helps to build their reputation for classroom excellence.

The SHTM is proud to have been associated with the AHLEI since 2003 through the organisation of CHE workshops.
