IMPACT2026: Transforming Hospitality and Tourism for a Sustainable Future
Organised by the SHTM and the Research Centre for Digital Transformation of Tourism, the IMPACT2026 conference will be held in Hong Kong from 6 to 8 December 2026.

Currently, the hospitality and tourism industries are undergoing a transformation, both digitally and in terms of business operations. Embracing these changes, IMPACT2026 will address the theme "Transforming Hospitality and Tourism for a Sustainable Future". The event will provide a platform for industry executives, government officials and academics to discuss transformation trends and insights, share research findings and practices, explore innovative pathways and develop strategies to capitalise on this transformation in evidence-based education, research and industry practices. The conference will aim to achieve the following objectives:
  • To explore how industries transform in the age of digitalisation
  • To integrate sustainability into digital transformation strategies
  • To discuss and suggest transformative education in tourism and hospitality
  • To nurture communities of learning and practice in response to digital transformation that is taking place in the industries, and
  • To suggest transformative ways to manage tourism and hospitality businesses in view of the changes in the macro and micro environments.
To achieve these objectives, IMPACT2026 invites submissions on topics related, but not limited to, the following:

Applications of AI and robotics in hospitality and tourism Transformative technologies for reducing carbon emissions
Innovation and knowledge management in hospitality and tourism Developing and managing digital tourism decision support systems
Capitalising on social media, live streaming and videos for industry practices Tourism as an agency for geopolitical conflict resolutions and for world peace
Entrepreneurship in hospitality and tourism Transforming hospitality and tourism for sustainability and resilience
Luxury experience design and management Transforming tourism and hospitality education in the age of digitalisation
Emerging consumer behaviours and trends in hospitality and tourism Other topics related to the conference theme
Solutions to address challenges in labour shortage in the industries
 
Submission Formats

Submissions must be prepared in APA format and fall into one of two categories:
  • Extended Abstract: 800 (± 100) words, including the title, abstract, keywords, main body and references, or
  • Full Paper: 4,000 (± 500) words, including the title, abstract, keywords, main body, references and, where applicable, figures and tables.
Submissions are accepted via EasyChair Platform. Both English and Chinese abstracts/papers will be considered for presentation at the conference:
  • Submission of extended abstracts/full papers: 30 September 2026
  • Notification of results: 31 October 2026
Registration

Accepted authors (or at least one of the co-authors of an accepted paper) should register for the conference to present their research. Early-bird registrations at HK$4,400 (regular participant) and HK$3,300 (Master and Doctoral students) will be made available up to 15 November 2026. Thereafter, standard registrations at HK$5,500 (regular participant) and HK$4,400 (Master and Doctoral students) will be charged.

Awards

Best papers will be awarded in the name of Asia Pacific Journal of Tourism Research, Journal of China Tourism Research and Journal of Travel & Tourism Marketing. Authors of award papers will be invited to fully develop their work to submit for publication considerations to the sponsoring journals.
