ACHIEVEMENTS AND RECOGNITION
The Hospitality and Tourism Research Centre of the SHTM, in collaboration with the Pacific Asia Travel Association, released the latest Asia Pacific Visitor Forecasts 2025–2027, providing in-depth insights into tourism recovery trends across the region. This comprehensive report presents forecasts for 39 destinations in the Asia Pacific region under mild, medium and severe scenarios and provides crucial insights for stakeholders in the travel and tourism industry.
On 3 April 2025, Miss Cathy Sun, a final-year student in the BSc in Hotel Management programme, received the Outstanding Student Award, School of Hotel and Tourism Management 2024/2025 at the Presentation Ceremony for the Outstanding Student Award and Presidential Student Leadership Award. Outstanding Student Awards are granted annually to full-time, final-year students who excel in both academic and non-academic pursuits during their studies.
At the same ceremony, Miss Vatey Mean, a Year 3 student in the BSc in Hotel & Tourism Management (Event & Experience Management) programme, received the Presidential Student Leadership Award, School of Hotel and Tourism Management 2024/2025. Presidential Student Leadership Awards are given to affirm students' excellent leadership performance and relentless passion for serving the community.
On 4 April 2025, Dean Kaye Chon and Mr Frédéric Beaumont-Debresie, Dean of the Hospitality Management Programmes and International Development, Institut Lyfe, signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding a student exchange programme and academic collaboration in France.
On 7 April 2025, Dean Chon and Prof Mojca Indihar Štemberger, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, School of Economics and Business, University of Ljubljana, signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding a student exchange programme and academic collaboration in Slovenia.
On 8 April 2025, Dean Chon and Prof Emil Juvan, Dean, Faculty of Tourism Studies – Turistica, University of Primorska, signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding a student exchange programme and academic collaboration in Slovenia.
SHTM Ph.D. student Ms Mia Zhu and Prof Dori Davari received the Best Paper Award for their co-authored paper entitled "Towards Conceptualizing Tourism Diplomacy: Memetic Theory Perspective" at the 6th Conference on Managing Tourism Across Continents in Istanbul, Turkey on 30 April - 3 May 2025.
Prof Henry Tsai, Dr Chris Chan and Dr Loretta Pang received the Best Paper Award for their co-authored paper entitled "Optimizing Hotel Profitability: A Quadratic Revenue Management Model Considering OTA and Direct Bookings" at the 33rd Council for Hospitality Management Education Conference in Colchester, UK on 20-23 May 2025.
Under the guidance of Dr Emily Chen, Mr Seong-bin Cho, Mr Junhwi Lim and Mr Hyunkyu Shm, final-year students in the BSc in Hotel Management programme, won 1st prize in the Collegiate ESG Idea Innovation Challenge – Undergraduate Students ESG Idea Competition for their topic, "Smart Meters, Smart Savings: Boosting Energy Efficiency in Hotels" at the 2025 Global ESG Conference in Phuket, Thailand on 23-25 May.
