From 10 to 13 May 2025, the SHTM hosted a Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) workshop, which led to professional recognition of the participants. The workshop was led by Dr Fred Mayo on behalf of the School and the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute, with assistance from apprentice Dr Maroun Aouad and Dr Jason Kelly.
The CHE workshop featured an exclusive four-day professional development programme. Twenty-seven participants networked
with other educators as they discussed and practised the latest global teaching principles and skills, aiming to provide the best educational experience for hospitality students.
The CHE workshop offers continuing education and professional development opportunities for all hospitality educators. However, it is especially useful for instructors with a strong industry background as it focuses on interactive teaching skills.
After completing the CHE requirements, the participants
could choose to sit the examination on the final day to earn a certification by the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute. The Certified Hospitality Educator designation recognises individuals who have demonstrated the qualities needed to become effective hospitality educators. It is prized by hospitality educators worldwide as it helps to build their reputation for classroom excellence.
The SHTM is proud of its association with the American Hotel and Lodging Educational
Institute, which has been maintained since 2003 through its provision of CHE workshops.
