With the provision of a creative learning environment, the programme fosters the synergy of craft and digital innovation to provide you the opportunity to realize your personal means of expression, and critically reflect upon your own work to develop unique theoretical approaches towards establishing new and inclusive definitions of fashion. The MA will support you towards defining and articulating your values and principles as a designer, whilst you attain an empathic understanding of contemporary fashion in a broader socio-cultural, environmental, technological, and economic context. You will be mentored and nurtured to become a highly skilled and competent professional, who has the potential to be a future leader of your chosen industry.

Over three semesters, you shall explore and realize your personal means of expression to establish your creative identity and design practice. The context of fashion shall be examined from a wide range of perspectives, to help you identify key contemporary issues that you can respond to through your own work and practice.

Academic Integrity and Ethics requirement (1 Credit)
Students are required to complete a 1-credit subject on Academic Integrity and Ethics (AIE) Requirement within the first semester of study. No credit fee will be charged for this subject. The AIE subject will be assessed on a pass/fail grading system and will not be included in the GPA calculation.
- A Bachelor's degree in textiles or fashion design, or the equivalent.
 
Applicants who hold Bachelor's degree in other fields of study and have adequate and relevant work experience in the fashion or textile industry may be considered for admission.
If you are not a native speaker of English, and your Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification is awarded by institutions where the medium of instruction is not English, you are expected to fulfill the University’s minimum English language requirement for admission purpose. Please refer to the "Admission Requirements" section for details.

Portfolio Advice
Your portfolio has great significance, as it allows us to understand you better. We are looking for evidence of a critically engaged design mind. So, it’s an opportunity for you to show us your unique way of working, why you deserve a place on our programme, as well as your potential as a designer to contribute something new to fashion.
Here are the key values and qualities we are looking for:
- Conceptual Depth
Evidence of strong research and the ability to develop a unique, thoughtful idea into a product or a cohesive collection.
 
- Critical Awareness
An understanding of fashion's context, including themes such as sustainability, ethics, and contemporary culture.
 
- Creativity & Originality
A clear design aesthetic, with a personal point of view that demonstrates a unique approach to design, as well as a willingness to take creative risks.
 
- Technical Skills
Proficiency in a range of skills that could be either traditional or interdisciplinary. It is important that you honestly evidence the skills that you are confident with and are part of your unique way of working.
 
- Professional Presentation
A well-curated, logically sequenced portfolio where the layout and content are well considered and successfully showcases the work. 
Portfolio Requirements
- Digital PDF: 20-50 pages (3-5 Projects)
 - Layout: 42cm x 29.7cm (A3 Landscape)
 - File Size: 10-25MB (Make sure you reduce the file size)
 - Image Quality: Ensure that all the images within your portfolio are not pixelated or blurred
 - Project Introduction: Each project needs a title and a brief description
 
Quick Checklist for Your Portfolio:
- Does each project have a clear, compelling concept?
 - Can I see the journey from research to final garment?
 - Is my personal design aesthetic evident? • Have I included evidence of my technical skills?
 - Is the portfolio easy to navigate and visually cohesive?
 - Does it show that I am a critical thinker, not just a maker?
 - Have I taken any creative risks?
 
- Interviews will be held in Hong Kong and China or via SKYPE
 - Students will be expected to attend classes on a full-time basis
 - The programme is taught in English. Potential candidates must have excellent English language proficiency
 - Non-local candidates admitted to the programme will need to make their own accommodation arrangements during the course of study
 - The Department will consider individual cases on their merit. Applicants may be required to attend interviews or tests to further demonstrate their language proficiency
