MHFA is developed by Ms. Betty Kitchener and Professor Anthony Jorm, 2 well known Australian mental health experts in 2001. Gradually spread throughout Australia and internationally 23 countries like Scotland, Hong Kong, Finland, Canada, UK, USA, Singapore etc…MHFA is the helping hand offered to a person who is developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. The first aid is given until appropriate professional treatment is received or until the crisis resolves.

課程原創者為澳洲前國立大學精神研究中心兩位專家Miss Betty Kitchener及 Professor Anthony Jorm在2001年創辦課程，2002年 編制「精神健康急救手冊」，並開始在海外推廣，現已有23個地區舉辦課程包括：蘇格蘭、香港、芬蘭、加拿大、英國、美國、新加坡、中國等…「精神健康急救」就是若遇當事人出現情緒困擾或精神健康問題，在他未得到專業人士協助前，我們可作的首要介入工作。

Purpose 課程目的:

• To acquire basic knowledge of common mental health problems

  對常見精神健康問題有基礎的認識 (30小時)。

• To identify the signs of mental health problems or crises

  辨識精神健康問題或危機出現時的表徵

• Provide preliminary and suitable support before the mental health problem gets worse

  在問題進一步惡化前提供初步及適當的支援

• Know how to encourage those persons in need to seek professional help or make use of appropriate community resources協助有需要人士尋求專業服務或運用合適的社區資源
