Biography

Shane Hayes is an Australian and internationally recognised APA Titled Sports Physiotherapist, Certified Strength & Conditioning Coach, and Accredited High Performance Manager. With over 15 years of experience as a Head of Medical, &/or Lead Physiotherapist in elite sport, Shane has supported more than 20 Olympic champions, contributed to multiple world titles, and built championship-winning injury management and athlete health systems around the world.

He has held pivotal full-time roles within China's national sports programmes, including serving as Head of Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Team, where he became the first foreign physiotherapist to establish sports rehabilitation services at the National Winter Training Centre. During this period, he toured with China's National Short Track Speed Skating Team, supporting their multiple Olympic gold medal performances. Shane later worked as Performance Rehabilitation Specialist and Team Physiotherapist across national teams in Athletics, Hockey, Basketball, and Speed Skating, while leading rehabilitation for elite athletes based at the centre. As Head Team Doctor with the Chinese Basketball Association, he supported their 3x3 team's Asian Games gold medal campaign.

In 2016, the Pakistan Cricket Board turned to Shane to overhaul their struggling injury situation. As Head of the Medical & Team Physiotherapist for Pakistan National Men's Cricket Team, his clinical leadership achieved a 70% reduction in injuries, dramatically improving player availability and enabling Pakistan's historic rise to World No. 1 rankings in both Test and T20 formats, along with their ICC World's Champions Trophy title win in 2017 — achievements that earned him the Pakistan Prime Minister's Medal.

Shane has also served as Head Physiotherapist for South Korea's National Athletics Team, supporting athletes at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, and held lead physio and senior sports physio roles across multiple national teams at the Singapore Sports Institute, including sailing, swimming, volleyball, basketball, and badminton. He was also Head of Medical Services for the Singapore Slingers, a professional basketball team that competed in both the ASEAN Basketball League and Australian NBL. Before relocating to Hong Kong, Shane served as Clinical Director of a private sports physiotherapy practice in Sydney with a focus on ACL (traumatic knee) performance rehabilitation, and worked with a range of sporting teams in Australia.

He holds specialist professional titles including APA Titled Sports & Exercise Physiotherapist, International Specialist Sports Physical Therapist (IFSPT), NSCA and ASCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Coach, and ESSA-accredited High Performance (Sports Science & Sports Medicine) Manager. He earned a Master's in Sports Physiotherapy from La Trobe University and a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the University of Sydney. He completed his APA Level 3 Sports Physiotherapy Certification at the world-renowned Australian Institute of Sport.

In addition to working with recreational and professional athletes, Shane consults on complex cases and provides second opinions for a range of sporting injuries and return-to-play planning. He has presented at international conferences and served on the International Strategy Committee for the Australian Physiotherapy Association, as well as on medical panels for several national sporting organisations.
