Abstract:
Abstract/ Event highlight from Knowledge Transfer and Entrepreneurship Office (KTEO):
KTEO provides extensive support to PolyU start-ups throughout their entrepreneurial journey. Entrepreneurship programmes such as the Ideation Funding Scheme and Micro Fund Scheme offer funding and training for start-ups in the PoC stage. KTEO also connects start-ups with both internal and external parties to facilitate technology adoption. For instance, antiviral and antibacterial products from PolyU start-up Immune Materials Limited have been applied to lift buttons and handle covers on the PolyU campus. The International Future Challenges initiative collaborates with leading industries to gather problem statements, driving demand-driven solutions and enhancing the success of PoC projects with opportunities for technology adoption within these companies.

In this seminar, Mr. Qven Wong will provide the audience with an overview of the comprehensive support KTEO offers to PolyU start-ups, particularly those at the PoC stage.

Abstract/ Event highlight from Industrial Centre (IC):
PolyU is committed to embedding innovation and entrepreneurship across its academic offerings. For example, a one-credit course, MM1031: Introduction to Innovation and Entrepreneurship, equips new students with innovative and entrepreneurial skills and mindsets to create solutions. In November last year, teams from the Industrial Centre (IC) and the Knowledge Transfer and Entrepreneurship Office (KTEO) visited MIT and Harvard to learn from these renowned institutions about fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, particularly through dynamic initiatives like capstone projects and student competitions.

In this seminar, the IC team will share observations from the visit, and KTEO will highlight their support services, including the Proof of Concept (POC) Programme and the Micro Fund Scheme, which are accessible to RS staff members and students. Lastly, there will be a panel discussion exploring how IC and KTEO can foster innovation and entrepreneurship in teaching and student engagements within the RS department.
