Research led by Prof. Wang Tao and Prof. Guo Hai has contributed to air quality monitoring and control strategies for addressing ozone pollution in Hong Kong and the Mainland. Their work underpinned the Clean Air Plan for Hong Kong 2035 and guided cross-boundary cooperation on improving air quality.
The research team’s findings have advanced the scientific understanding of urban ozone formation, which informed the implementation of the national ozone-precursor reduction initiative and influenced the development of targeted control programmes in regions including Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Shandong across eastern and southern China, contributing to improved air quality for hundreds of millions of people.
Their research has made significant contributions to the field. Prof. Wang and Prof. Guo have also served in advisory roles on multiple high-level committees including Hong Kong’s Air Science and Health Taskforce, expert panels of the Hong Kong Environmental Protection Department, and the Ozone Pollution Control Professional Committee of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences.
