Research led by Prof. Tsang advanced ultrafast laser science through new 2D materials-based saturable absorbers and innovations in beam quality control and stabilization. Together these developments raised performance benchmarks for precision and efficiency in the laser industry.

Production of the technology by a leading laser welding equipment supplier saw their sales soar to RMB 1.5 billion, with 705 million additional profit between 2020 and 2025, their successful listing on the Shenzhen STAR market and the creation of 562 new jobs. The resulting products of these award-winning technologies are now used globally by over 40 companies across 22 countries.
