One of the biggest challenges in corporate governance is information asymmetry — when some parties know more than others. This can affect auditing, lending, disclosure, and even public confidence. Prof. Walid Saffar, Prof. Jiang Liangliang and Prof. Jeffrey Ng have advanced understanding of how disclosure, auditing infrastructure, and financial reporting shape corporate behaviour and decision-making. Their studies reveal how stronger disclosure standards improve contracting, how political connections influence financial reporting through auditor choice, and how timely loan loss recognition by banks can reduce corruption in lending. Their work has been cited in books and by the media. Standard setters have considered their work to be impactful in policy-making. Impact has also been achieved through active engagement in knowledge transfer with different practitioners at different forums, including via webcast and YouTube.
