PolyU co-hosted Sustainability Lecture Series with French Consulate: “POWER THE FUTURE: POTENTIAL AND CHALLENGES, from Energy Storage to Green Building”

Co-hosted by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, the second conference held within the “Sustainability Lecture Series: Can We Make our Planet Great Again” consisted university-industry mix of speakers to share their views, experiences and good practices towards sustainability on 2 Jun 2021. The seminar featured the topic, Power the Future: Potential and Challenges, from Energy Storage to Green Building. It was organized by Research Institute for Sustainable Urban Development (RISUD) and Innovation and Technology Development Office (ITDO) of PolyU.

Mr. Alexandre Giorgini, Consul General, Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau and Prof. Xiangdong Li, Dean of Faculty of Construction and Environment, Director of Research Institute for Sustainable Urban Development, Chair Professor of Environmental Science and Technology, PolyU attended and delivered a welcome speech. The online seminar was a big success with participation from over 150 audiences and six insightful speeches and discussions had been carried through the 2.5-hour hybrid seminar.

Topics were shared over the seminar:

 Topic 1: Advancing Battery Technology with Operando Sensors

- Fiber Optic Sensors and Applications by Dr. Julien Bonefacino, Postdoctoral  Fellow, Department of Electrical Engineering, PolyU
- Application to Energy Storage Devices by Dr. Jiaqiang Huang, Collège de France
- Moderated by Dr. Steven Boles, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, PolyU

Topic 2: Today’s Challenges of Energy Storage Technologies

- Batteries for the energy transition by Mr. Michael Lippert, Director Innovation and Solutions for Energy, Saft, Vice President, EASE, Chairman of the Board, Batteries Europe and BEPA
- Dare to lead by Mr. Albert Lau, Co-Founder & CEO, EPRO Advance Technology Ltd
- Moderated by Dr. Steven Boles, PolyU


 

Topic 3: Building Energy Management

- Smart design, control and diagnosis for saving energy in buildings by Ir. Prof. Shengwei Wang, Interim Director of RISE, Chair Professor of Building Services Engineering, PolyU
- Sustainable Building Energy Management Technology by Mr. Kelvin Li, Director, Strategy and Business Development, Schneider Electric (Hong Kong) Limited
- Moderated by Prof. Xiangdong Li, PolyU
