With active participation from 28 RI-IWEAR members across 9 PolyU departments, the Research Institute for Intelligent Wearable Systems (RI-IWEAR) successfully hosted its annual retreat from 20 August to 21 2026. The event featured five presentations, two panel discussions, and a result sharing session. The participants showed great interest in the speech contents and actively participated in the group discussion.
The retreat started with a welcome remark from Prof. TAO Xiaoming, Director of RI-IWEAR. Then Prof. CHAN Ching Ho, Philip introduced the Hong Kong Microelectronics Research & Development Institute (MRDI). Prof. Tao reported the progress of RI-IWEAR in the previous year. Prof. YAN Feng, Associate Director of RI-IWEAR (Research) reported the preparation progress on the International Conference on Intelligent Wearable Systems and Applications 2027.
On the second day, Prof. ZHENG Zijian, the Vice President (Knowledge Transfer), shared insights on PolyU knowledge transfer policy, and Prof. George Q. HUANG, the Director of Research Institute for Advanced Manufacturing introduced the recently granted AoE project entitled “Cyber Physical Smart Manufacturing Systems”.
The two group discussions were centered around two topics: large grant applications and knowledge transfer.
