DP and Provost speaks at 21st Century Chinese Medicine Internationalization Strategy Webinar by HKBU

Prof. Wing-tak Wong, Deputy President and Provost (DP), presented the topic on “Interdisciplinary Research Platform for Traditional Chinese Medicine in Greater Bay Area.”


Co-organised by the School of Chinese Medicine (SCM) of the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and the Hong Kong Association for Integration of Chinese-Western Medicine (HKAIM), the webinar on “21st Century Chinese Medicine Internationalization Strategy” was successfully held on 21 August 2022 (Sunday). With a view to making Hong Kong the bridgehead for CM development, the webinar brought together heads of prestigious universities and authorities from around the world to offer their views on key problems and solutions so as to empower Hong Kong’s CM Development under the leadership of its new chief executive John Lee.

 

Prof. Wai Ping-kong Alexander, President and Vice-Chancellor of Hong Kong Baptist University, Prof. Lo Chung-mau, BBS, JP, Secretary for Health, HKSAR Government, Dr KO Wing Man, GBS, JP, Member, Executive Council, HKSAR Government, Dr LEONG Che Hung, GBM, GBS< OBE, JP, Former Chairman, Hospital Authority and the Council of the University of Hong Kong, as well as Prof. LYU Aiping, Dean, School of Chinese Medicine, Hong Kong Baptist University, officiated at the Opening Ceremony of the event.

 

The webinar fostered a dynamic dialogue between researchers and industry leaders with wide range of topics from international regulations to the national and local tertiary institutions’ strategic advances to foster TCM’s R&D and Industrial development. Under Session 2: Research & Development in Hong Kong Universities, Prof. Wong Wing-tak, Deputy President and Provost, was invited to present the university’s contributions to the modernization, industrialization and internationalization of Chinese Medicine via its education, interdisciplinary research, knowledge transfer, as well as establishment of laboratories and research institutes/centres on the topic of “Interdisciplinary Research Platform for Traditional Chinese Medicine in Greater Bay Area.” He also reported on PolyU’s action plans, milestones and targets for new drug discovery as well as the use of technology for improving efficiency and accuracy of CM diagnostics.

 

The webinar provides a constructive platform for academia and researchers to exchange insightful perspectives on the latest development, challenges and opportunities of Chinese Medicine. The event was well participated with over 300 TCM enthusiasts.

PolyU will foster interdisciplinary collaborations and advance its TCM Research and Development to capitalise on the opportunities brought by the Greater Bay Area’s Development.
