IEEE VTS Distinguished Lecture: Modern Electric Machines for Electric Vehicle Driving System

IEEE VTS Distinguished Lecture Modern Electric Machines for Electric Vehicle Driving System Abstract— Electric machines play a pivotal role in the driving systems of electric vehicles (EVs). Various types of electric machines have been researched and implemented for EV applications. In addition to conventional electric machines, emerging stator permanent magnet (PM) electric machines with enhanced performance have been proposed in recent years, offering improved heat dissipation efficiency and simplified, robust rotor structures. Among the different stator PM machine variants, flux-switching PM (FSPM) machines have gained significant attention due to their superior torque, power density, and reduced torque ripple. In this lecture, novel High-order-harmonic stator FSPM machines are introduced to enhance torque and fault tolerance capabilities for EV driving systems. Date: 6 December 2024 Venue: E4-101, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), Guangdong, China

Introduction to Wireless Charging Application for Electric Vehicle

Course Series:  APAS & IMIHK Event The Path to Green Hong Kong Course title:  Introduction to Wireless Charging Application for Electric Vehicle Details:  Traditional wired charging suffers from mesh cords and risks of electrocution, which may lead to inconvenience, disorder, and safety/reliability concerns. Recently, wireless charging has been recognized due to its safety, flexibility, mobility, reliability, efficiency, and environmental friendliness. More specifically, wireless charging enhances convenience by removing the hassle of physical connections, enabling electric vehicles to initiate charging automatically when aligned with a charging pad. The absence of exposed cables improves safety, minimizing risks like electrical shocks or weather-related damage from loose wires. Durable, weatherproof components further bolster system reliability by resisting moisture and debris. Moreover, wireless charging seamlessly integrates with autonomous driving technology, smart parking infrastructure, and automated payment platforms, simplifying the charging workflow and enabling fully hands-free functionality. Given these benefits, the wireless energy network is promising with everything being wireless in the network. This class will discuss relevant aspects of wireless charging for Electric Vehicle Energy Network, which includes the concept of the Wireless Electric Vehicle Energy Network; wireless charging device, architecture and infrastructure; systematic analyses; verifications of wireless energy charging, routing and trading; and foresight of wireless energy trading.  Date and Time: 25 July 2024 (Thursday) 2:30 - 5:00 p.m. Venue: 1/F, Inno Theatre 1, HKPC Building Speaker: Prof. LIU Wei Assistant Professor and Manager,  Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering & Research Centre for Electric Vehicles,  The Hong Kong Polytechnic University   {"commands":[{"click":"chrome:field:editcontrol({command:\"webedit:edithtml\"})","header":"Edit Text","icon":"/temp/iconcache/office/16x16/pencil.png","disabledIcon":"/temp/pencil_disabled16x16.png","isDivider":false,"tooltip":"Edit the text","type":null},{"click":"chrome:field:execute({command:\"bold\", userInterface:true, value:true})","header":"","icon":"/temp/iconcache/office/16x16/font_style_bold.png","disabledIcon":"/temp/font_style_bold_disabled16x16.png","isDivider":false,"tooltip":"Bold","type":null},{"click":"chrome:field:execute({command:\"Italic\", userInterface:true, value:true})","header":"","icon":"/temp/iconcache/office/16x16/font_style_italics.png","disabledIcon":"/temp/font_style_italics_disabled16x16.png","isDivider":false,"tooltip":"Italic","type":null},{"click":"chrome:field:execute({command:\"Underline\", userInterface:true, value:true})","header":"","icon":"/temp/iconcache/office/16x16/font_style_underline.png","disabledIcon":"/temp/font_style_underline_disabled16x16.png","isDivider":false,"tooltip":"Underline","type":null},{"click":"chrome:common:edititem({command:\"webedit:open\"})","header":"Edit the related item","icon":"/temp/iconcache/office/16x16/cubes.png","disabledIcon":"/temp/cubes_disabled16x16.png","isDivider":false,"tooltip":"Edit the related item in the Content Editor.","type":"common"},{"click":"chrome:rendering:personalize({command:\"webedit:personalize\"})","header":"Personalize","icon":"/temp/iconcache/office/16x16/users_family.png","disabledIcon":"/temp/users_family_disabled16x16.png","isDivider":false,"tooltip":"Create or edit personalization for this component.","type":"sticky"}],"contextItemUri":"sitecore://master/{BA8AC78B-85AA-43AE-BA72-86EA797943B6}?lang=en&ver=6","custom":{},"displayName":"Description after Quote","expandedDisplayName":"Content of the Description after Quote message.
