IEEE VTS Distinguished Lecture: Modern Electric Machines for Electric Vehicle Driving System

6 Dec 2024

IEEE VTS Distinguished Lecture

Modern Electric Machines for Electric Vehicle Driving System

Abstract— Electric machines play a pivotal role in the driving systems of electric vehicles (EVs). Various types of electric machines have been researched and implemented for EV applications. In addition to conventional electric machines, emerging stator permanent magnet (PM) electric machines with enhanced performance have been proposed in recent years, offering improved heat dissipation efficiency and simplified, robust rotor structures. Among the different stator PM machine variants, flux-switching PM (FSPM) machines have gained significant attention due to their superior torque, power density, and reduced torque ripple. In this lecture, novel High-order-harmonic stator FSPM machines are introduced to enhance torque and fault tolerance capabilities for EV driving systems.
