22 Sep 2026

Prof. Haiyan Song, Director of the Research Centre for Digital Transformation of Tourism (RCDTT) and Mr and Mrs Chan Chak Fu Professor in International Tourism at the School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), recently visited the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Headquarters in Bangkok.

The primary objective of the official visit was to finalize the upcoming flagship publication: the PATA Annual Tourism Monitor Report 2026. The PATA Annual Tourism Monitor Report 2026 is built on the foundation of the PATA Visitor Forecasts 2026–2028, a long-standing collaborative forecasting initiative between PATA and RCDTT / SHTM.

The report highlights Key travel demand patterns, visitor flow trajectories, and regional performance across Asia and the Pacific, which help destination management organizations (DMOs) and private-sector stakeholders navigate an evolving tourism landscape. The report also provides actionable guidance to support evidence-based policy formulation, investment strategies, and sustainable industry development. The full report is scheduled for official release in October 2026 to all PATA members and the public.

During high-level meetings with PATA leadership, Prof. Song also met Mr Noor Ahmad Hamid, CEO of PATA, to explore new avenues to deepen institutional collaboration and address pressing industry needs, including: Development of a PATA Tourism Satisfaction Report to establishing a standardized regional benchmark to assess and track visitor experience, service quality, and destination competitiveness across Pacific-Asia destinations.

The discussion also includes designing applied research projects focused on high-priority industry topics such as AI and data-driven destination management, crisis resilience, and sustainable tourism practices.

This visit reinforces the enduring partnership between PATA and RCDTT/SHTM, highlighting the vital role of advanced data science, econometric modeling, and academic-industry collaboration in driving sustainable tourism growth across the Asia-Pacific region.
