香港理工大學國家藝術基金 2025 年度藝術人才培訓資助項目成果展《時代回應筆墨 —— 中國筆墨精神的當代轉譯與時空對話》在深開幕

2026年7月10日,國家藝術基金2025年度藝術人才培訓資助項目《數字藝術展覽管理人才培訓》成果展《時代回應筆墨——中國筆墨精神的當代轉譯與時空對話》在深圳市關山月美術館正式開展。本次展覽由香港理工大學主辦,香港理工大學設計學院、深圳市關山月美術館、香港理工大學文化與藝術科技研究中心、香港理工大學英偉達聯合研究中心共同承辦,獲中國香港特別行政區政府文化體育及旅遊局文化交流活動資助。 7月15日上午11時,展覽開幕式在館內舉行,相關領導嘉賓、多位知名藝術家、專家學者,以及培訓項目授課導師、學員齊聚一堂,共同見證展覽開幕。 當下,人工智能、交互設備等數字技術正不斷融入藝術創作與展覽實踐,也為傳統筆墨精神打開了新的表達語境。如何藉助數字媒介激活筆墨精神的時代價值,是當代藝術創作與數字策展領域共同面對的課題。本次展覽以「中國筆墨精神的當代轉譯」為核心主題,通過數字藝術、智能交互、空間敘事等多元媒介,呈現傳統筆墨精神在數字時代的多維表達。 作為「數字藝術展覽管理人才培訓」項目的成果展,本次展覽在項目負責人、香港理工大學杜本麟教授的總體指導下完成策劃與實施,集中呈現了項目的教學成果與學員的策展、創作實踐。 開幕式上,香港理工大學設計學院院長李健杓教授談到,本項目探索的不只是一次數字藝術展覽管理人才培養實踐,更是新時代設計教育回應數字化轉型、人工智能發展與文化傳承的一種新路徑。他表示,未來的設計教育,培養的應是既懂文化、懂社會、懂技術,又具備跨學科整合與創新表達能力的新一代設計人才。 項目負責人杜本麟教授介紹了項目的人才培養理念:培訓圍繞藝科融合、數字策展、公共傳播構建教學體系,以真實展覽項目貫穿課程學習與策展實踐,讓學員在項目推進中提升策展組織、團隊協作、媒介整合與公共傳播能力。他認為,數字藝術展覽管理人才既要有藝術素養,也要理解數字技術的發展邏輯。 深圳市關山月美術館館長陳俊宇表示,希望以此次展覽為契機,深化館校合作,為數字藝術人才培養搭建更開放、多元的交流平台。 學員策展人代表天津美術學院許楠副教授回顧了培訓結束後團隊持續線上研討、打磨方案、推動展覽落地的過程。他談到,這次展覽不僅是培訓成果的集中展示,也是學員們一次跨學科、跨領域的協同創作實踐。 開幕式上,香港理工大學與深圳市關山月美術館簽署《諒解備忘錄》,雙方將在文化與藝術科技學術交流、公共美育、產學研成果轉化等領域建立長期合作機制,為粵港兩地藝術教育與文化交流注入新動力。 開幕式結束後,與會嘉賓在策展團隊代表李書天的導覽下步入展廳,近距離觀摩參展作品,並圍繞數字藝術、傳統文化創新表達等話題展開交流。 展覽由「時空對話」與「當代轉譯」兩個單元構成,通過不同藝術家的跨媒介實踐,共同回應中國筆墨精神在數字時代的發展命題。 「時空對話」單元聚焦筆墨精神的歷史延續與哲學拓展,邀請不同代際的藝術家展開傳統與當代、東方與數字之間的對話。單元中既有將傳統水墨與光纖互動材料結合、讓靜態筆墨化為流動光影的科技藝術實踐,也有藉助浮空全息投影、沉浸式數字光影空間、動態機械裝置,將書法、水墨、山水等傳統視覺經驗重新組織為可觀看、可感知、可交互的數字藝術場域 —— 筆墨不再停留於紙面,而是在光影、演算法與物理空間中獲得新的生命形態。 「當代轉譯」單元聚焦人工智能生成藝術、交互影像、沉浸式空間、多感官藝術等新媒介實踐,探索數字媒介對筆墨語言的重新生成。藝術家藉助人工智能、多感官裝置、生物傳感、機械動力等技術,將傳統水墨從二維視覺擴展為融合視覺、聽覺、觸覺、嗅覺、身體感知與實時交互的綜合體驗,觀眾既是觀看者,也是作品生成過程的參與者,在與作品的持續互動中,共同完成傳統筆墨在數字時代的再創造。 展覽期間,主辦方還圍繞展覽主題舉辦《墨韻・時代對話》研討會及系列公共工作坊,邀請參展藝術家、項目導師與學員,圍繞水墨藝術的跨界探索、人工智能與傳統文化轉譯等話題展開分享與研討,並同步面向公眾開放,讓觀眾得以從展覽之外的角度,進一步走近數字時代的中國筆墨精神。   從策展統籌、視覺設計、空間規劃,到公共教育、宣傳推廣與展覽實施,項目學員全程深度參與,在展覽實踐中同步積累專業能力與策展經驗,是項目「以展促學、以展育人、學用結合」理念的一次完整實踐。 本次展覽不僅展示了國家藝術基金人才培養項目的階段性成果,也為中國筆墨精神在數字時代的創新表達提供了新的實踐樣本。未來,項目將持續推動數字藝術展覽管理人才培養,探索傳統文化與數字科技融合發展的更多可能。 展覽將持續展出至 2026 年 8 月 4 日,面向公眾免費開放。 關山月美術館展覽網頁:http://www.gsyart.com/exhibition_detail.action?id=2235

Beijing–Hong Kong Cultural Exchange: "Guochao Resonance Elegance into the World" Exhibition Grand Opening at PolyU

(Hong Kong, 14 May 2026) Jointly organised by the School of Fashion Accessory, Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology (BIFT) and the School of Design, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), and co-organised by PolyU Research Centre for Cultural and Art Technology and PolyU Creative Technology Centre (Beijing), “Guochao Resonance Elegance into the World — Contemporary Translation and Design Innovation of Chinese Opera Visual Culture was officially inaugurated. Centering on Chinese Opera visual culture history, the exhibition integrates digital technology, AIGC-generated design and contemporary creation methodologies. It explores modern transformation strategies for traditional culture, establishing an academic exchange platform between Beijing and Hong Kong.   The opening ceremony gathered senior management, faculty members and students from both institutions. Prof. Peng Lu, Dean from the School of Fashion Accessory, BIFT delivered the opening remarks. She stated that Chinese Opera constitutes a vital component of Chinese cultural heritage. Taking theatrical visual elements as the research focus, the exhibition integrates traditional aesthetics with digital fashion design. Leveraging complementary academic strengths, both institutions will continuously develop cross-regional research platforms for innovative cultural design.   Thereafter, Professor Kun-Pyo Lee, Dean School of Design, PolyU, presented a speech. He emphasized that traditional culture serves as an enduring source of creative inspiration. Adhering to interdisciplinary integration of culture and technology, the School of Design regards the exhibition as an in-depth cultural translation practice, formulating innovative paradigms for the global dissemination of Chinese heritage.   Vice Dean Wang Wei of BIFT and Professor Henry Duh, Associate Dean of PolyU School of Design, jointly issued a bilateral academic cooperation statement. Both sides confirmed future collaboration in cultural theoretical research, digital fashion development, creative technology application and joint talent cultivation. The partnership aims to strengthen art-technology integration and elevate the global visibility of traditional Chinese aesthetics. Prof. Wang Wei further introduced the exhibition background and academic framework. Structured by historical documentation, digital translation and lifestyle innovation, the exhibition demonstrates the complete research trajectory of opera visual culture, covering academic collation, design iteration and practical implementation.   As a landmark cultural initiative between Beijing and Hong Kong higher education institutions, this exhibition strengthens artistic exchange and academic synergy. Moving forward, both faculties will reinforce cross-regional collaboration. The 16th BIFF 72 Hours AIGC Film Hackathon - Hong Kong Station Preliminary Round has successfully concluded

(Hong Kong, 2 Apr 2026) The 16th BIFF 72 Hours AIGC Film Hackathon - Hong Kong Station Preliminary Round concluded at PolyU on the same day. Co-organised the Hong Kong Station Preliminary Round by School of Design, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the competition attracted talented AIGC filmmakers from Hong Kong, who embraced the challenge of producing AI-generated storytelling short films within limited time and resource constraints. It showcased the creative potential of integrating artificial intelligence with the art of filmmaking and bridging the connection for AI and film cultural exchange between Beijing and Hong Kong. Following the BJIFF AIGC Unit standards for preliminary rounds held across different cities, the four-hour event comprised a three-hour creation session during which participants produced an AIGC-driven short film of at least one minute in length, followed by a screening and a panel judging discussion. Three authoritative judges were invited to form a professional jury, namely Prof. Henry Duh (Associate Dean of School of Design), Ms. Step Cheung (Deputy Programme Leader of Digital Media, School of Design and Art Director of the Golden Horse Award-winning film "Beyond the World"), and Dr. Sky Lo (Assistant Professor of School of Design). From a professional perspective, the three judges assessed submissions according to the BIFF AIGC Unit’s evaluation guidelines, recognizing the creative potential demonstrated by the participants. Judges shared strategic advice and industry insights with the participants after the judging session. The improvised roundtable discussion turned the event into an active cultural exchange platform. As Co-organisers of The 16th BIFF 72 Hours AIGC Film Hackathon - Hong Kong Station Preliminary Round, Research Centre for Cultural and Art Technology, PolyU-NVIDIA Joint Research Centre and PolyU Creative Technology Centre (Beijing) dedicated to build a professional exchange platform for local AIGC film creators, effectively promoting the popularization and application of AIGC technology in the film and television field, and further deepening the pragmatic cooperation between Beijing and Hong Kong in the field of cultural and technological integration. It is reported that the outstanding participating teams of this event will obtain opportunity to advance to the Finals in Beijing, which will be held from 20 - 23 Apr 2026, competing with top global creators on the same stage to jointly explore new paths for AIGC film creation.

Prof. Henry Duh Reflects on Curiosity and AI at Business of Design Week (BoDW) 2025

(Hong Kong) As an invited speaker at the Business of Design Week (BoDW), Prof. Henry Duh, Director of PolyU Research Centre for Cultural and Art Technology shared his insights during the panel discussion titled “Curiosity, Design, and AI: Shaping the Future of Creative Innovation.” The BoDW theme of the year, "Curiosity Ignites Design Innovation," served as a backdrop for exploring how curiosity fuels the creative process in design. During the discussion, Prof. Duh emphasized the critical role curiosity plays in the lives of designers and society as a whole. He remarked, “Curiosity is one of the driving forces behind human progress and a key ability for designers to solve problems. Without curiosity, we lose our passion for life and the ability to explore. Stimulating curiosity in designers and users alike makes design more engaging, diverse, and aligned with needs.” The panel featured esteemed experts, including Prof. Cabirio Cautela (POLI.design), Mr. Stefano Carta Vasconcellos (Istituto Europeo di Design), and Prof. Giovanni Caruso (Domus Academy). They discussed how AI can enhance human imagination and support innovative solutions in the creative process. Prof. Duh, alongside local leaders such as Mr. Lam Wai Keung (Hong Kong Design Institute) and Ms. Amy Ip (CaaS), contributed fresh perspectives on the implications of AI in shaping the future of design. "ImmerJM: A 3D Design Tool for Creating User Journey Maps Based on Immersive Virtual Environments" Recognized at IEEE ISMAR 2025

(Daejeon) Centre's Director, Prof. Henry Duh led his research team to present their full paper publication research "ImmerJM: A 3D Design Tool for Creating User Journey Maps based on Immersive Virtual Environments" at the IEEE International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality (ISMAR) held in Daejeon, South Korea, from October 8-12, 2025. ISMAR is a premiere conference for Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR), and Virtual Reality (VR), and is considered a CCF B conference, attracting leading researchers from academia and industry. The paper, conducted by PhD student Mingming Wang and research team members Xiaoyu Zhang, Dr. Weiyue Gao, Yihan Mei, Dr. Haiyan Jiang, Yusheng Guo, Prof. Henry Duh, and Dr. Zhibin Zhou, addresses the unexplored potential of integrating Immersive Virtual Environments (IVE) into Journey Map (JM) creation, which traditionally relies on 2D data. This integration represents a significant achievement in the Research Centre for Cultural and Art Technology’s endeavor to innovate design solutions that address real-world problems. The research bridges this gap by integrating IVE into the JM creation process, exploring the potential of applying IVE in this context. Findings suggest that ImmerJM advances JM methodologies by leveraging spatial immersion, offering crucial implications for future JM creation and broader UX design practices involving IVE technologies. This recognition highlights the innovative approach of ImmerJM and its potential to significantly impact UX design.

Prof. Henry Duh Attends Digital Heritage Forum 2025 in Abu Dhabi

(Abu Dhabi, UAE) Centre’s Director, Prof. Henry Duh was honored to be invited by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) to attend the Digital Heritage Forum 2025 at the Culture Foundation in Abu Dhabi. The event served as a multidisciplinary platform where industry experts and academic leaders came together to share their insights and innovations in the field of cultural heritage. Chaired by renowned experts Prof. Eugene Ch'ng (Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University) and Dr. Charles Cheung (NVIDIA), along with other distinguished speakers including Andreas Bauer from Ars Electronica and Daniel Sproll from realities.io, the forum “Beyond the Glass Case: VR/AI Experiences in Cultural Heritage & Museum” focused on how technology can enhance the exploration and experience of cultural heritage through immersive media and innovative interactions. During the forum, Prof. Henry Duh presented ongoing projects funded by the Hong Kong government and the China National Arts Fund, which aim to preserve intangible cultural heritage utilizing AI and AR/VR technologies. "Thanks to Ona Vileikis Tamayo for the kind invitation and exceptional hospitality. The forum was exceptionally organized, providing a fantastic opportunity to engage with leading experts across culture, archaeology, humanities, architecture, engineering, and computer sciences from around the globe," said Prof. Henry Duh, "I was thrilled to connect with diverse communities in digital heritage, and I eagerly anticipate the next forum. Dr. JIANG Haiyan’s project has received support from the National Natural Science Foundation of China

Dr. JIANG Haiyan, Postdoctoral Fellow at the Research Centre for Art and Culture Technology and the PolyU-NVIDIA Joint Research Centre, has received a grant under the Youth Science Fund Project (Category C) granted by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) for the year of 2026.   The funded research “Research on real-time construction technology of multi-sensory immersive virtual-reality fusion environment for cognitive intervention” focuses on developing an immersive environment for long-term, personalized, multisensory-coordinated, multi-domain cognitive intervention. The outcomes of this study will enhance the effectiveness of cognitive interventions through virtual reality (VR), supporting healthy aging, and provide a solid foundation for future research and translational studies in cognitive health.  Awarded Project Summary: Virtual reality (VR) technology provides users with highly immersive interactive environments, enabling effective cognitive interventions through multisensory stimulation and thereby slowing cognitive decline in older adults. However, current VR-based cognitive intervention approaches face limitations such as insufficient tactile stimulation, lack of diversity in intervention content, and static intervention scenarios.   To address these challenges, this project will investigate the key scientific issues in the real-time construction of multisensory-coordinated immersive environments for cognitive intervention in VR, aiming to develop a long-term, personalized, multisensory, and multi-domain immersive environment for cognitive training. Specifically, the project will focus on three aspects: 1.  Cognitive intervention methods based on virtual–real integration 2.  AI-driven generation of cognitive intervention strategies 3.  Real-time construction of dynamic immersive environments   The project is expected to enhance VR-based cognitive intervention and provide methodological foundations for future interdisciplinary research in cognitive health.

(Hong Kong) Prof. Xiang Yong, Director of the Peking University Institute for Cultural Industries, has been invited to present a keynote lecture titled “Eastern Aesthetics from the Perspective of Computational Art: Intelligence and Creativity” to the PhD students at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. In his lecture, Prof. Xiang imparted his insights and expertise to the research students, highlighting the potential of Eastern philosophy to inspire innovative and transformative perspectives in technology development.

Kick-Off of PolyU’s Digital Art Curation Talents Training Programme Supported by China National Arts Fund 2025

We are pleased to share that the Digital Art Curation Talents Training Programme, supported by the China National Arts Fund 2025, officially kicked off on 14 July with a ceremony at the Wong Man and Tang Kit Wah Global Student Hub, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Organised by the PolyU Research Centre for Cultural and Art Technology (CAT) and the PolyU-NVIDIA Joint Research Centre under PolyU School of Design, this initiative marks a historic milestone—PolyU is the first UGC-funded university in Hong Kong to receive funding from the prestigious China National Arts Fund 2025 under the art talents training category. Running from 14 July to 5 September 2025, the programme brings together 20 experienced professionals and scholars from Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau, aiming to nurture future leaders in digital art curation and strengthen Hong Kong’s role as a hub for international cultural exchange. The kick-off ceremony featured distinguished educators and industry leaders from Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Beijing, including Dean Prof. Kun-Pyo Lee, Prof. Henry Duh, Dr Kan Tai-keung, and representatives from NVIDIA, West Kowloon, and leading art institutions.
