More than a reunion, PolyU’s annual Homecoming has become a celebration of shared identity and collective achievement. This year, over 6,000 alumni returned to campus for “PolyU Homecoming 2026: AI.Art”, transforming the University into a vibrant showcase of innovation, creativity and community spirit.

Held on 12 April, the flagship alumni event brought together graduates, families, staff and students for a day that blended technological imagination with artistic expression. PolyU Council Chairman Dr Lam Tai-fai and President Professor Jin-Guang Teng officiated at the opening ceremony, joined by Council members, senior management, deans and leaders of alumni associations – a visible reflection of the strong bonds between the University and its global alumni network.

In his address, Professor Teng reflected on PolyU’s remarkable progress. Approaching its 90th anniversary, the University now ranks among the world’s top 100 institutions and counts more than 500,000 graduates worldwide. He credited this success to the dedication of staff and students and the steadfast support of alumni.

With the theme “Artificial Intelligence and Art”, this year’s Homecoming offered an eclectic programme designed to engage minds and rekindle memories. The InnoTech Campus Adventures, organised by more than 40 faculties, schools and departments, drew crowds eager to explore PolyU’s latest research breakthroughs. From a portable AI Retinal Fundus Camera to a pioneering lightweight system for fatty liver assessment and a radiation-free 3D ultrasound imaging solution for scoliosis, alumni were given a glimpse of how their alma mater continues to push boundaries in applied research.

Many also took the opportunity to revisit familiar landmarks – the University Gallery, Library and Industrial Centre – strolling through spaces that once shaped their student days, now infused with fresh energy and purpose.

Creativity flourished beyond the laboratories. The Alumni Creative Market and AI x Craft Workshops showcased the diverse talents of more than 20 alumni, with activities ranging from galvanised iron craft and blown sugar art to patterned band weaving – elements of Hong Kong’s intangible cultural heritage. Live music performances added to the festive atmosphere, while competitions such as the Campus Architecture Photo Contest, AI Calligraphy Competition and a puzzle hunt animated the day with friendly rivalry.

This year’s “AI and Art” themed event featured a series of engaging activities blending artificial intelligence with the arts, with alumni-led cultural workshops proving especially popular among participants.

A spirited futsal tournament provided a lively finale. Dr Lam led the Fei Yang Alumni Team in matches against fellow alumni sides, culminating in a grand final that drew enthusiastic cheers from the sidelines.

With nearly 200 student and alumni volunteers contributing to the event, Homecoming 2026 stood as a testament to the unity, pride and enduring connection that continue to define the PolyU Community.
