Guest Speaker: Dr YIN Huan

Research Assistant Professor, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

Dr Yin received the B.Eng. and the Ph.D. degrees from Zhejiang University (ZJU), in 2016 and 2021, respectively. He was a visiting scholar at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), and a research fellow at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He is currently a research assistant professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). He won the Best Conference Paper Award as first author for RCAR 2020 and the Zhang Si-Ying Outstanding Youth Paper Award as last author for CCDC 2021. His doctoral study won the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award granted by ZJU, and the Wu Wenjun Award granted by CAAI. He is the reviewer for 15+ journals and conferences, and the associate editor for the top robotics conference ICRA. His research interests include robotics, perception, SLAM and autonomous system.

Abstract

Robot localization and mapping is a fundamental intelligence for a wide range of mobile robotic systems, ranging from home vacuums to self-driving vehicles. In this talk, I will share our latest research on advancing the robot localization and mapping in terms of robustness, lightweightness and accuracy. Our studies concentrate on the representation modeling and correspondence estimation, and have been integrated into the robotic systems that are designed for challenging tasks such as large-scale urban mapping and all-weather indoor positioning. I will also briefly touch upon other emerging and interesting topics related to next-generation autonomous navigation.
